Introduction:

Windstorm (Ostwind) is a simulation/exploration game based on the popular German book and movie series Ostwind. You play as Mika, a teenager who has been sent to her grandmother's horse ranch, who soon finds out she has a kinship with the black stallion Windstorm. This is as close to Black Beauty: The Game as you're probably ever going to get – and it has a platinum trophy!

The game is currently only available in the German PSN store, or sold on disc in Germany. The game is in English (at least, the digital version is; I haven't confirmed whether the disc version is as well, though I would imagine so), so you won't have any problems if you decide to pick this one up. Make sure to search for "Ostwind" in the German PSN store, as you won't turn anything up under "Windstorm."

It is important to note that the collectibles counter can be buggy. To counteract this, ignore all collectibles (except the one you have to pick up in the tutorial, which doesn't count) until you're able to enter free-roam, then pick them all up in a single sitting. If you pick up the collectibles in multiple sittings, you run the risk of the counter resetting to an earlier count.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play the tutorial missions

Play through the first two missions of the game to learn the basics. Upon starting the third mission, you'll see a new option in the bottom-left corner of the screen: Go for a ride. This is the point where you can abandon the storyline and just start working on the platinum.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Step 2: Horse Racing

This step will be very quick – find the race at the hay bale field at the west end of the Kaltenbach Estate, and finish it.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Step 3: Collectibles

This is the bulk of your platinum run. There are 120 carved horse statues scattered around the map. They are fairly large and sparkle when you're near them, so this is not as difficult a task as you might think. Make sure to do this all in one sitting, as doing this during multiple playthroughs can cause the collectible counter to bug out.

See Treasure Finder Posted Image for a map showing the locations of all collectibles.

While gathering collectibles, you will also unlock all of the various exploration trophies, and likely the four plant collectible trophies as well, as all of the plants will spawn near at least one of the collectible statues, and sparkle just like the statues do.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Step 4: Cleanup

By the time you've gathered all 120 horse statues, it's quite possible you will have the platinum. If not, you're either missing the four plant collectibles (head to the Pasture if so; they all seem to spawn around there), your jumps (go to the Training Grounds and run the course there), or riding distance (go to the Hills). Whatever you're missing, now's the time to farm it.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

And finally... Platinum Trophy Posted Image! Congratulations!

Collect all trophies.

Herzliche Gluckwunsche!

Windstorm trusts you. Finish Mister Kaan's training.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

The first mission in the game is a tutorial, which will teach you riding controls.  This trophy will unlock when you're back on the mission select screen after completing the tutorial.

3S8d1906.pngPerfectly nurtured (B)
Thanks to you, Windstorm is a very happy horse! Care for Windstorm until he is at his best.

Story-related and cannot be missed.

The second mission in the game is another tutorial, which will teach you how to groom Windstorm.  You'll start with the brushes – use the hard brush on the horse's sides and back, and the soft brush on the head, neck, and legs.  The trophy will unlock once the brushing is completed.

Before moving on, make sure to clean Windstorm's hooves as well.

4S40fab2.pngBernweed (S)
Collect Bernweed. This plant is dangerous for horses. The more you collect, the better. You can find them on open maedows.

Bernweed are yellow flowers that kind of look like dandelions.  You will know you've come across some because they will sparkle, just like the collectibles do.  Simply walk over them to collect them and unlock this trophy.

There is a patch of Bernweed just east of the entrance to the Kaltenbach Estate.  Just look for the sparkle and walk into it to collect it.

If for some reason you've gathered all the collectibles and still haven't unlocked this, ride around in the Pasture area; all four plants seem to spawn there randomly.

5Sb99b43.pngPurple Foxglove (S)
Collect Purple Foxglove. This plant is dangerous for horses. The more you collect, the better. You can find them at the edge of the forest or in the shade.

Purple Foxglove is a pink/purple flower on a very tall stalk.  You can find one next to a collectible statue at the waterfall (Waterfall) – just look for the sparkles and walk into it to collect this plant.

If for some reason you've gathered all the collectibles and still haven't unlocked this, ride around in the Pasture area; all four plants seem to spawn there randomly.

6S608ed7.pngSpotted Hemlock (S)
Collect Hemlock. This plant is dangerous for horses. The more you collect, the better. You can find them on dry spots and on slopes.

Spotted Hemlock are white flowers.  There is a huge field of them in the northeast corner of the Kaltenbach Estate near the body of water next to the Training Ground.  You'll see a sparkle in the top corner of this large field filled with large red flowers; simply walk into it to collect the Spotted Hemlock..

If for some reason you've gathered all the collectibles and still haven't unlocked this, ride around in the Pasture area; all four plants seem to spawn there randomly.

7S017964.pngBracken Fern (S)
Collect Bracken Fern. This plant is dangerous for horses. The more you collect, the better. You can find them at the edge of the forest or on clearings.

Bracken Fern is a large fern plant that often grows near water.  A great place to find it is next to the large river going northeast away from the Dark Forest.  There are four collectibles in this area, so you wouldn't be going out of your way.  Just look for the sparkles and walk in to the fern to collect it and unlock this trophy.

If for some reason you've gathered all the collectibles and still haven't unlocked this, ride around in the Pasture area; all four plants seem to spawn there randomly.

8S6771ac.pngJumper (B)
Windstorm loves to jump with you!

For this trophy, you will need to jump over 100 obstacles with Windstorm.  To jump, get Windstorm galloping, then press :square: to jump over the object.  It does not seem to matter if you get a “good” or “perfect” jump – just as long as you clear the object.

There's no way to track this, so you'll have to keep count.  The training grounds is a great place to farm this one.

9Sb3ffdd.pngTraining Ground (S)
Find the training ground of Kaltenbach Estate.

The training grounds are east of the Kaltenbach Estate.  It is available to see on your map the very first time you enter free roam mode.  Ride to and enter the training grounds to unlock this trophy.

This is a great area to work on Jumper, as there are several jumps in quick succession here.

10Scc0cf2.pngThe trailer (S)
Find Mister Kaan's trailer. He is living there and creates those beautiful carvings.

Kaan's trailer is located in the area of the map marked Windstorm's Paddock.  Ride to the "W" of Windstorm and you should see an eight-pointed star and a blue K on your minimap to help you locate it.

There's a collectible here, so this will unlock naturally on your way to Treasure Finder.

11Sc7c31c.pngTraveler (B)
When you run, you are free!

You will need to gallop and sprint on Windstorm for a set amount of distance.  I've read that it's 50km, but I can't confirm that, and neither can the game, because there doesn't seem to be a way to track the distance you've ridden.  This should come before you've finished unlocking Treasure Finder, but if for some reason it doesn't, find a big open area (the Hills is good for this) and just run around until it unlocks.

I recommend sprinting (hold :cross) as often as possible, just in case the game only counts sprinting towards this trophy.

12Sce43a4.pngViewpoint (S)
Find the best view around Kaltenbach Estate!

The viewpoint is located in the Hills area of the map.  Once you ride up there, look at your minimap and ride towards the eight-pointed star – the viewpoint itself is on top of a large mound.

There's a collectible at the top, so this will unlock on your way to Treasure Finder.

13Sfbef03.pngAncient Tree (S)
Find Mika's favourite tree. Here she likes to unwind and watch Windstorm.

Mika's tree is in the fenced area right behind Kaan's trailer (The trailer).

There is a collectible right next to the tree, so this will come naturally on your way to Treasure Finder.

14S7da9f1.pngThe Stone Circle (S)
Find the ancient stone circle. For how long might it be standing here?

The stone circle is located in the northeast section of the Ruins area on your map.  When you're in the Ruins area, look for an eight-pointed star on your minimap to help pinpoint its location.

There's a collectible in the middle of the circle, so this will come naturally while you're going for Treasure Finder.

15S1d7bf0.pngSpelunker (S)
Find the mysterious cave.

The cave is at the west end of the water area of the Forest Clearance.  On your minimap, look foran icon of an eight-pointed star (The Waterfall) to help you out.  If you're coming more from the direction of Windstorm's Paddock, you should pass by a church and small graveyard, which will also help you orientate yourself.

There's a collectible in the caves, so you'll unlock this naturally while going for Treasure Finder.

16S5e25c5.pngThe Train Station (S)
Find the train station where Mika arrived.

The train station is located on the east side of the map.  The easiest way to find it is to follow the main paved road east of the Training Grounds until they intersect with the train tracks – you'll find the train station at that curve in the road.  Alternately, just find train tracks and follow them east until you hit the station.

There's a collectible at the train station, so you will unlock this naturally while going for Treasure Finder.

17S950abb.pngThe Siding (S)
Find the old siding in the woods.

The siding is located in the Dark Forest.  If you look at the map, you should notice a white square on the east side of the forest.  When you get close to that area, you will see railroad tracks.  Follow them and you should see an eight-pointed star on your minimap – head towards that.  This trophy will unlock when you reach the train cars parked nearby the minimap star.

There's a collectible near the siding, so you will unlock this naturally while going for Treasure Finder.

18S295c39.pngThe Waterfall (S)
Find the big waterfall.

This more or less goes hand-in-hand with Spelunker, as the waterfall is one of the entrances to the cave.  The waterfall itself is at the west end of the water area of the Forest Clearance.  On your minimap, look for an eight-pointed star to find it.

19S59dbaf.pngCross-country race (S)
Your best time for the fieldrun. Find the fieldrun and measure your time.

From your starting position upon entering free-roam, immediately turn left and follow the road.  Eventually you will come across an open field with hay bales.  Continue left and you will almost immediately see a wooden archway.  Walk under it to start the “race” - just get to the orange marker at the end of the straight path.  Your time here doesn't matter – you just need to finish the race.  This trophy will unlock at the results screen.

20S9cb315.pngAbandoned farm (G)
Find the Ungar's farm. Here Mika freed 33 and the other horses.

Ungar's farm is located in the Dark Forest.  Upon entering the Dark Forest area, you will immediately see a shack, and nearby you should see an eight-pointed star on your minimap.  Go to that star to find the farm and unlock this trophy.

There is also a collectible at this farm, so you will unlock this naturally while going for Treasure Finder.

21S48792e.pngTreasure Hunter (S)
Find half of Mister Kaan's carvings.

See Treasure Finder.

22Sd953bb.pngMaze (G)
Find the center of the maze.

The maze is an area of rocks, located between the areas on the map marked Windstorm's Paddock and Pasture.  There are two collectibles in it, one of which is right in the center, so you will unlock this while going for Treasure Finder.

This isn't particularly difficult, as there are only about three paths you can take, but I've posted a video below (courtesy of insidegames.ch) that will take you right to the center of the maze.

23S854ba3.pngMysterious Stone (G)
Find the mysterious Monolith. Where might it came from?

The Monolith is in the Hills area, south of the viewpoint (Viewpoint).  In the scenery, look for a sort of watchtower; it's at the base of that.

This one can be tricky to get to; see the video below (courtesy of insidegames.ch) to see exactly how to access the Monolith.

There's a collectible here as well, so you'll unlock this while going for Treasure Finder.

24Sc676d0.pngExplorer (G)
You know Kaltenbach Estate inside out. Find all remarkable places in the surroundings.

Don't even worry about this one.  You will unlock it while going for Treasure Finder.  This is a sort of “catch all” trophy that goes with all of the other exploration trophies on the list.

25S2d5491.pngTreasure Finder (G)
Find all of Mister Kaan's carvings.

There are 120 collectibles in the game – these are carved horse statues.  They are fairly large and sparkle when you're near them, and are generally just sitting out in the open.  When you're near one, slow Windstorm down and simply walk into it to pick it up.

You will need to get all the collectibles in a single sitting, as doing this over multiple gaming sessions can cause the collectibles counter to bug out.  Getting everything shouldn't take more than an hour, perhaps two.

Ssj-Bejita has made a map with all collectible locations, which I'm reposting here.  I recommend downloading a copy to your computer and crossing them out as you find them – press the touchpad to bring up the large map to show your exact location.

Does "multiple sittings" also mean going back to the estate and doing free-roam again?

I'm pretty sure I collected all statues but my counter says 117/120. :(
