I just platinumed the free to play FALLOUT SHELTER on the PS4.

I haven't played Fallout 3, new vegas or 4.  I have watched a lot of youtube with people dunking on fallout 76 though........ that's always fun.

Anyway, this is a perfect game that you play twice a day, or even once a day.

What this reminds me of is the old game simtower, where you manage resources and run a tower.  In this game you are building and managing a fallout shelter.  you need to manage resources, build rooms, send people on missions, train dwellers, make weapons, outfits etc.

One of the main parts of this game is to send your dwellers on missions, both solo and ones the game gives you.  These take a varying amount of time.  What you can do is send these dwellers (up to three missions at a time after you upgrade) then the travel time can be anywhere from 60 minutes to like 30 hours.  there are ways to speed this up with nuka cola.  you can get these through game play, but the game wants to sell you them as well.  I never bought any cola, and always seemed to have a surplus.  Basically one cola takes up 2 hours or travel time.  I used them for the shorter times, and just let the longer ones wait out.

Speaking of buying things, there are some things that actually would be a wise investment.

These are pet carriers for the game.

Here's a list of the pets you can get

https://fallout.fand...ut_Shelter_pets

if you notice there's a dog that gives either a 2x or 3x multiplier, and a bird that does the same.  What this means is that if you stop a raider attack, it counts for either two or three as long as the last raider is killed in a room where that pet is assigned to a dweller.

There's a trick to make sure that you get these pets.  Yes, the carriers are random.  However, before you start opening them, back up your save on the USB drive.  IF you like what you get keep them.  IF not reload the save off the USB drive, and then play for like 45 minutes and the carriers will "reset".  Repeat the process.  With this you can get quite a few multipliers.   I always had one guarding the vault door, and sent them on quests.  When it says complete 100 quests for a trophy, i think mine popped at 47.

Additionally for PS+ memebers you get a free starter pack.

https://store.playst...SPLUS0000000000

now, you only get one pack no matter how many times you restart your vaults.

it contains

"1 Pet carrier
1 Mr. Handy
6 Pack of Nuka Cola Quantum
5 Lunchboxes which may contain Dwellers, Pets, Mr. Handy, Nuka-Cola Quantum."

Source https://www.psu.com/...e-ps-plus-pack/

The lunch boxes are randomized just like the pet carriers, so if you don't like what you get, do the same trick.  With mine i got a few legendary weapons and 2 legendary dwellers from the start, and it made things extremely easy.

---------------

So this game is easy, a long term project and can be done completely for no money.  Personally I'd suggest buying the 15 or 40 pack of pet carriers just to speed things up, especially the raider attacks, legendary item/outfit acquisition and quest count but it is by no means required.  In fact, throughout the game you get lunchboxes and per carriers, so if you're a total cheap ass, you can keep recycling the ones you get and eventually you will get what you want, but it is random, so if you take that approach, realize it may take a while.

I suggest everyone play it, especially if you approach it as a long term project where you play once or twice a day and not sit down and try to knock everything out (you'd have to buy a lot of nuka cola).

After playing this i'm ready for project hi-rise, i hope it's similar (minus the feral ghouls and deathclaws)

---------------

Anyone else that's played it please add your thoughts ,and if anyone is thinking about playing it but has questions, throw those up here too and i'll answer them for you

I'd be the first to fuck that up.  I just did it slowly over time as Raiden said.  I enjoyed the game a lot.  I'd played it quite a bit on mobile when Fallout 4 released.

I'm the worst to review these games because they're my favorites and I'm biased...even with all the problems they come with I just enjoy them too much to care.

I am playing it...but I also played it when it was just a mobile game.  It is a nice way to kill time in between other games.
