Chess Ultra is your typical chess game. Nothing out of the ordinary here and a relatively simply trophy list, especially with the ability to self-boost. The game can be played in ANY order however if you follow my order it guarantees certain trophies pop in certain areas. There are some tutorials that will unlock random trophies and some challenges also. So before going for those as one offs go through the tutorial mode and challenge mode.

There are only 6 TRUE online trophies however to make a lot of the miscellaneous trophies easier you will be self-boosting to achieve them using this guide. There are OFFLINE ways of obtaining those trophies though legitimately but we're here to do this quickly so that won't be covered.

Step 1: Tutorial

Finish the tutorials. There are 36 to complete. During this step you'll also unlock some random trophies also. These should all pop in Step 1:

  • Under Promote
  • Doubled Pawn
  • O-O
  • O-O-O
  • Checkmate
  • Chopwood
  • Promotion
  • En Passant
  • Learner
  • Underpromote

Step 2: Challenge Mode

You have 80 challenges to get through. 77 of them have solutions that are provided in the videos below. The final 3 are easily won by utilizing a chess simulator at Next Chess Move. You'll earn the following in this step:

  • Double Check
  • Problem Solver
  • Family Fork
  • Problem Solved

Step 3: Grandmaster Game

Here you're play one match against the Grandmaster difficulty. Simply start a single game against the grandmaster level AI and use Next Chess Move to plan out each move. You'll pop all the following trophies at once when you win.

  • Elo
  • Elo Elo
  • Elo Elo Elo
  • Chess Champion

Step 4: Online/Tournaments

Now to go online and self-boost some tournament wins.

How to play against yourself:

Make sure you have an alternate account that’s a user on your PS4. With your alternate account boot up Chess Ultra and play through one challenge so the game recognizes you as a player. You can fail the challenge, it doesn’t matter. Close down the game and switch to your main account.

Load up the game. Go to Single Game, New Game and under the Opponent setting choose friend and then find your alternate ID in the list. Start game. If you’re white make the first move. Now close the application. Switch User.

Under your alternate account boot up the game, go into Single Game and your match against your main account will be there. Start it, make your move. Close Application. Switch User and so on.

It’s important to close out the application prior to switching users others the game gets confused. It’s time consuming but makes the game self-boostable.

See the following trophies for details on obtaining each in this step.

  • Stranger Danger
  • Friendly Fire
  • Tournament Amateur
  • Tournament Pro
  • Tournament Master
  • Tournament Champion

Step 5: Clean Up

The following are individual trophies you can get whilst either boosting or self-boosting. Some of these MAY pop in other steps but if not, get them here.

  • Checkmate
  • Piece Collector
  • Epaulette Mate
  • Octopus
  • Spanish Bishop
  • Bobby Time
  • Blind Pigs
  • Stalemate
  • Back-rank Mate
  • Fool’s Mate
  • Scholar’s Mate
  • Queen Sacrifice
  • Boden’s Mate
  • Absolute Pin
  • Alekhine’s Gun

c25.jpg Tournament Champion trophy_gold.png
Win a 32 player tournament

You are going to need a minimum of one boosting partner for this trophy and ideally, you'd have 4-8. What you want to do is similar to how you win tournaments. You want to set up a 32 player tournament with 31 friends (that being either 31 unique friends for 4-8 friends with at least 3 accounts each)

You can have 16 accounts signed into one PS4 at a time so if you just simply want to go account crazy you could do this with just one other friend.

All of those accounts need to have played at least one challenge in Chess Ultra so that the game recognizes them as players.

When you go to make your 32 player tournament you'll choose Opponent, Friend and then proceed to choose those 31 PSN IDs. Now those 31 PSN ID's need to log into the game and QUIT THE TOURNAMENT. Once all 31 have quit you'll be declared the winner.

You need to sign into the game, go to tournaments and open it up and your trophy will pop.

For clarification, the tournaments save and even though you haven't accepted simply being invited to the tournament adds you to it. When you quit you forfeit and therefore, the last person standing is left the winner.
236.jpg Elo Elo Elo trophy_gold.png
Beat an opponent with an Elo rating more than 150 higher than yours

See Chess Champion

bce.jpg Chess Champion trophy_gold.png
Beat the computer on Grandmaster difficulty

For this trophy you're going to utilize www.nextchessmove.com

Set up your game up and have the simulator make your moves for you. The simulator at NextChessMove beat the Grandmaster AI all three times I tried it.

6fd.jpg Tournament Master trophy_gold.png
Win 20 tournaments

For this trophy you're going to be self-boosting utilizing 3 alternate accounts and the creation of 4 player tournaments. First you need to make 3 alternate accounts. Create emails, create some fun new PSN IDs and have them all available on your PS4. Now with each of those alternate accounts boot up Chess Ultra and play 1 challenge so the game recognizes you as a player.

Now go back to your main account (the one you're earning trophies on) and create 4 player tournaments:

Go to Tournaments, Create Tournament, Choose 4 players and Choose Friend under opponent. Now check off your three alt accounts. You're able to create a max of 3 tournaments at one time.

Sign into each of your alternate accounts, load of Chess ultra and leave the three tournaments which will forfeit the games. Do this for all three.

Once this is done go back to your main account and sign in, boot up the game, go to your tournaments and you'll have won all three.

Rinse and repeat that process for 20 tournaments and it will unlock all three tournament win trophies.
