Introduction
Welcome to where the nightmare begun! The very first Resident Evil game remastered from 2002, is a second time remastered now in HD 1090p, 5.1 Dolby surround and widescreen ratio.
If you never played this games before on Gamecube or Wii, or either the basic version of the 90's, you definitely have to play this now.
Whilst the game is a digital-only release in North America and Europe, a limited edition retail release of the PlayStation 3 version will be available exclusively in Japan.

Facts about unlockables

  • "True survivor" and "hard mode" will be unlocked after beating the game on "normal" difficulty.
  • "Invisible enemy mode" will be unlocked after beating the game on "true survivor", or after beating the game with "Chris on hard" mode.
  • Save after each playthrough and load that save every time you start playing to take your collectibles with you. (eg. costumes or weapons)
  • You can not stop the ingame playtime. Time will continue until the credits.
  • Trophys for beating "very easy" and "easy" will be unlocked after completing "normal" difficulty.
  • Samurai edge and infinite Rocket launcher will be unlocked after beating the game on hard in less than 3 hrs.

Useful playhints:

  • There are two control methods to play this game. The classical version has the advantage to go backwards and you will got less confused by camera angles.
  • If an enemy grabs you, rotate the left analog stick to come faster out of the grab.
  • Fastest and savest method to finish this game:
    Spoiler

Roadmap:

If you really want to get this done in 4 playthroughs, you should be aware of the following conditions:

  • two playthroughs with Jill and Chris
  • both characters should be get a good ending (rescue everyone) and a bad ending (rescue nobody)
  • one playthrough should be on "normal" difficulty (eg. 1st playthrough)
  • one playthrough on "hard" or "true survivor" mode
  • one playthrough on "invisible enemy" mode
  • one playthrough without saving
  • one playthrough only with knife (no lighter, Defensive Items, and stomping zombie heads)
  • one playthrough on "hard" within 3hrs for achieving all weapons.
  • looking for missable events like eg. zombie burning or letting be saved by a partner.

Here is a possible example:

  •
  • Playthrough = Jill, normal, good ending.
  • Playthrough = Chris, Hard, good ending.
  • Playthrough = Chris, "invisible enemies", knife only (very easy difficulty), bad ending.
  • Playthrough = Jill, "true survivor", no saving, less than 3hrs, bad ending.

Step1: get used to it!

To make this as easy as possible, take your first playthrough and enjoy the game. Pick Jill, because she has the better inventory with 8 slots and better weapons in her story line. Go for the best ending and rescue everybody.
Watch out for missable events like:

Trophy guide

:bronze
Like Taking Candy from a Baby
Finish the game on Very Easy difficulty or higher
If you choose a new game for the first time, you will be asked, how you like your games.
For the "Very Easy" difficulty pick: "Like taking a walk. You can relax and enjoy yourself."

:bronze
Not in the Mood to Die
Finish the game on Easy difficulty or higher
If you choose a new game for the first time, you will be asked, how you like your games.
For the "Easy" difficulty pick: "Like going on a hike. Good exercise, but not too strenuous."

:bronze
Take that, Zombies!
Finish the game on Normal difficulty or higher
If you choose a new game for the first time, you will be asked, how you like your games.
For the "Normal" difficulty pick: "Like climbing a mountain. Fulfilling, but takes a lot of work."

:bronze *missable*
Get Used To It
Die for the first time
Don't worry, there are plenty of situations to get this.

:bronze
First Kills Are Special
Defeat a zombie
This is story related and can't be missed.

:bronze *missable*
Not Taking Any Chances
Burn up a zombie
You need a "Lighter", a filled "Fuel Canteen" and a dead Zombie. Go over the Zombie, open your inventory, pick the fuel canteen and choose use.
If you play with Jill you have to find the Lighter (same room like the dog whistle), while Chris has this in his inventory since the beginning. The Fuel Canteen can be found in the storage room on east side of the mansion.

:bronze *missable*
Passion for Fashion
Obtain all costumes
You have to beat the game two times with Jill and two times with Chris, to get all costumes.
This Trophy will appear after you have finished the 4th playthrough. There is no need to visit the changing room in the mansion.

:bronze *missable*
Every Nook and Cranny
Visit all places on all maps
This Trophy is not translated correctly!
Besides the fact you have visited all places in one playthrough, you have to pick up everything which can be found on the map. The whole map has to be covered in "green", so visit all red marked parts on the map, to find the missing item. The harder the difficulty, the less items can be found.

:silver
We're in This Together
Finish the game with Jill and Chris
Complete a game on any difficulty with Jill and Chris.

:silver
You da Man, Chris
Finish the game using Chris
Complete a game on any difficulty with Chris.

:silver
Alpha Team's Finest
Finish the game using Jill
Complete a game on any difficulty with Jill.

:silver *missable*
Don't Stop Running
Finish the game in three hours
I recommend doing this, if you played this game already a few times. You need to get used of the controls, the enemies, the map and the order of collecting items and using stuff, while being asleep.
You can not stop the playtime for a break or other things, you have to get this done in one attempt.

Here are some tips:
  • pick the "original controls". You can walk backwards and will not get confused by changing camera angles.
  • Hit :start to skip cutscenes.
  • Do not save your progress, if it's possible for you.
  • Do not visit your inventory for some useless reasons.
  • Take only one gun with you, to save room for useful stuff.
  • Kill only if you really have to kill. You can pass almost every enemy in the game.
  • Do not burn Zombies.
  • Do not visit useless rooms. (eg. little bathroom(s), room with deer head, Tigerstatue, etc.)
  • Do dot rescue anybody (Do not collect MO-Discs, Tigereyes)
  • You can also pick the "very easy" difficulty.
  • Keep passwords in mind.
:silver *missable*
Racing and Pacing
Finish the game in five hours
See above "Don't Stop Running"

:silver *missable*
CQC FTW
Finish the game using only your knife (no lighter, Defensive Items, and stomping zombie heads)
I recommend doing this, if you played this game already a few times. You need to get used of the controls, the enemies, the map and the order of collecting items and using stuff, while being asleep.
Can also be done in "invisible enemy mode" on very easy.

Tips:
  • choose "very easy".
  • Picking Chris is essential! He has the better knife, the better technique and the better defense.
  • Collect many healing stuff and take advantage of the big healing pot on the dog balcony.
  • Rebecca can restore your health completely every time.
  • avoid as many enemies as possible, don't start a fight until it's necessary.
  • Bossfights:
    • Crimson Head prototype1: one of the toughest fights. Try to get him in the corner. If he's knocked down, go 2 steps forward and stab him two times. Take as much healing with you as possible. Insert 3 masks, take healing, save, and insert the last one.
    • Plant 42: be at the ground floor, a bit right from the stairs in the middle and stab up in the air. Sounds harder that it is actually is, I only needed one healing during this fight.
    • Yawn (big snake): pretty easy, because the snake has a big area to hit.
    • Black Tiger: Don't fight! simply run towards that door and hit the webs.
    • Tyrant: be in the front and run a bit in the circle and stab sometimes. He is pretty lame and not so hard to beat.
Here is a video, which seems very useful:

Speedrun guide

For any players, who have trouble finding the right and perfect way, this could be here an appropriate way here. It is possible finishing this game in under 2hrs with both characters.
I will line up some inevitable facts you need to be aware of. In the end you can find some videos under different conditions. I wish you good luck with this.

You can not stop the playtime for a break or other things, it's recommended to get this done in one attempt.

Basically run:
- Arrow
- Sword key
- Chemical
- Dog whistle (Jill+Lighter)
- use dog whistle to get armor key
- 1st Mask = chemical use on plant
- missing notes 1/2 (near attic)
- missing notes 2/2 + piano = get sword key
- 2nd Mask = attic (yawn fight)
- 3rd Mask = room with armor suits
- 4th Mask = after large galery with pictures and crows
- insert all masks to get stone and metal plate
- Forest -> get square-crank
- residence -> red book (Spider Room)
- key 001 to get
- command key to get into
- aquaring -> get gallery key
- get 003 key (under beehive)
- Plant 42 -> get Helmet key
- back in mansion (upstairs, avoid Hunters) -> get

Yeah, I think you're right about the rating. For anybody, who did not play this, it must be really difficult. I played this already so many times on the Gamecube, so I had background experience.

Only the knife run was new for me and I was afraid of this Trophy, but believe me, on very easy it's a piece of cake. I've done this on invisible enemy mode and made it almost in the first attempt. The crimson head zombie in the graveyard killed me once, but the rest was easy going.

The hardest part for me was the real survivor run. I did this within 3hrs and without saving. Especially the beginning is pretty tough, but if you leaved the mansion for the first time, it's getting better.

I will be playing this game no matter what as well.  I loved this game, but yeah my concerns are the same as cobras.

Can you really beat the game with only a knife, how many times do you have to hit tyrant with the knife.  I thought I remember you had to run away from him because he rapes you if you get close.

I tell you something: "I THOUGHT THE SAME! o.O

I found a video and thought: how could anybody be this crazy and do this also in invisible enemy mode? o.O

watch yourself:

I played this in my last run. I thought nothing can be harder than real survivor in 3hrs without saving and I was right!

On invisible enemy mode, you can pick "very easy" and you have with chris so much space in your inventory, because of saving ammunition, instead you pick healing stuff.

I only died 3 times in this run. (1 time crimson head in the graveyard, once a fucking hunter with instant kill-.- and the other...I forgot...)

tyrant is pretty easy, I thought he is more stronger, but I've done in my first attempt and was disappointed :D

of course you can kill plant 42 with a knife. I did not expect this too, but it is possible. watch the video, he did this in about 4 minutes start watching from 1:09:00. plant is finished in 1:13:23

besides, you can not make v-jolt with Chris, because he is not a medic. He ignores the empty bottles in that room.

And Barry will only save Jill I think too

crystal i was looking at this again i am going to know your guide by heart before release lol.

but your examples are the exact way i will get this plat on your third run with chris bad ending knife only if richard dies then everything is on par.

Well done bro. On a side note richard doesnt have anything to do with endings but to get vjolt serum on knife run ignore rebecca and kill richard.

Later on during plant 42 boss fight you will become rebecca and make the serum took me a week to remember how to do this but thats the only way to kill plant 42 with a knife i know that video is nice but even the best RE player in the world cant do that in less than 25 tries to copy that strategy.

True survivor mode with no saving, I am not a fan of adding playthroughs but I think doing a very easy no saving run would be much easier.

I know people should know the game at that point but one misstep with the final boss or a hunter and your day is over.

You can do it in 4, but I think it might be easier doing it in 5.  I have to start this game, I miss this game just talking about it.

minimum number of playthroughs = 4

of course, you can do more runs, but you can achieve this plat. within 4 runs.

true survivor can not be played on easy. the difficulty is set automatic on "hard" in that run, you can not change it in that mode.

The Survival Horror
Finish the game in Real Survival mode

This mode will be unlocked after the first playthrough.

characteristics:

  • difficulty is set on "hard"
  • auto-aim is deactivated
  • Boxes are not connected

I would recommend the run with no saving only if you have experience with the game. the same with the 3hrs run.

For gamers who did never played this it could be like this:

1. Jill (any difficulty)

2. Jill (hard)

3. Jill (very easy invisible enemy mode)

4. Jill (true survivor)

5. Chirs (any difficulty?)

6. Chirs (knife run)

7. Chris (3hrs no saving)

It's long but you're on the save side. There are many possible ways to get this done.

I played this game the last time for 6 years on the gamecube. I used my 1st and 2nd playthrough to accustom with the game and enjoy the graphics. (Jill and chris run)

The 3rd run was the hardest (true survivor, no saving and 3hrs) I needed about 8hrs to get this done. the beginning in the mansion was the hardest part.

the final run (knife + invisible enemies) was truly a piece of cake after that. I got this done (with saving on very easy) in 3:35 hrs.

And if you died or somehow your ps3 froze, that is a ton of hours to lose.  That is why I was saying doing real survivor mode and no saving was a hard thing to do.
