Lights, Camera….Action?

It certainly is a crazy time over at Hyperdimension Neptunia PP, a game about a cheeky dancing pop group that come armed with more pink ribbons and tiaras than a girl’s under 6′s birthday party. If you’ve always wanted to be the next Simon Fuller then spice up your life as Hyperdimension Neptunia brings a busty Japanese lesson in teeny bop band management to PS Vita. It’s your decision and your planning that steers this band of talentless pop wannabes to success. Just like in real life your wooden and clueless pop fodder can be exposed on every media outlet possible, so it’s your call how you manage this motley crue of scantily clad babes. Somehow, under all the cute candy floss look and auto tuned vocals Hyperdimension Neptunia PP works.

The game rolls out day by day and here one action can be performed. Whether it’s a singing lesson, dancing classes, media work or even taking a holiday to unwind Hyperdimension Neptunia offers you many choices to the road to fame. Each of these actions in turn level up your pop princess’ powers and prepare her for a live show. These concerts are the end product of all the menu bashing you have been putting in. Here the game lets you get even more hands on as now you have control of the stage lighting, confetti cannons and an array of unlockable effects that need be triggered, while your stiletto wearing goddesses pout away and throw their shapes to the adoring fans. This is definitely the most exciting part of Hyperdimension Neptunia and lets your creative juices flow. As the rest of the game is very menu based, this comes as a much needed welcome break. Perform well and you gain more fans, rise up the charts and gain more shares. Continuing the success sees you over take your chart opponents and finally win the game. I did this around the 110 day mark.

Now my biggest problem is how short the days are. Only one task can be selected per day. You don’t get to see how this action is performed, it just sort of happens, then she quickly toggles off to bed. With each day happening so quickly the repetitiveness starts to hit home. On top of that, hearing the same lines before bedtime also grates, but the loud colours, showbiz glitz and lack of clothing overshadows just about everything.

The game shows just how fickle the music industry is and laughs at how young credulous wannabes expect something for nothing. Extras like Viewer Mode let you tinker with each of the four stars and here you can get them to wriggle like a worm if that’s your bag.

Hyperdimension Neptunia PP is an unconventional and surreal experience straight out of Cuckoo land, and that’s why I like it. It’s bubble gum pop with lashings of silly talk that somehow works.

Lizard rating 7/10

Personally as a Big HDN fan this game was a real let down. Sure I bought the game twice but I only really for my collection. I know this is your opinion but this game is not as good as it's lead to be. If you have more than 180 days as well and have more than a 4 "chapter" story this game would have been a lot better. But in all honesty this is my review of the game

Thanks for the review. Pretty interesting. You play more as a fan of the game not expecting something amazing. Got it. It is on my list for future purchase but I want to get some easier games done first :D
What? There's no Shouto figure? Blasphemy!!
