Introduction

Rico Rodriguez has been sent on a mission to a fictional State of Panau to investigate why its president Baby Panay severed ties with USA government and if Tom Sheldon, Panay's former mentor, had anything to do with it.
To uncover the truth Rico has to infiltrate ranks and earn trust of three Panauan resistance factions and to achieve this goal he has to cause chaos... LOTS of chaos.
Because that's what Just Cause 2 is about - freedom and creativity to destroy and kill in whatever manner delights you and the more over the top it gets the better!
Even though there is a main story-line, with a good handful of side missions, free roam and exploration constitutes the core of the game play. There are masses of enemies to kill and tons of enemy objects and constructions to demolish. Engaging yourself in any of those actions earns you Chaos which in turn unlocks new missions and exciting equipment in the inventory.
In between spreading havoc you can drive cars, boats, fly planes, glide on a parachute, test your skills in speed challenges or simply go exploring to discover new locations, as there are snowy mountains, sandy beaches, deserts and lush tropical jungles - Panau has it all.
Fasten your seat belt and take a plunge into this fantastic, fast-paced, full of action, third person adventure - once you enter, chances are you will not want to leave.

Roadmap

Instead of Steps

There is no set way to get to the Platinum. Just Cause 2 is about complete freedom of choice and freedom of order in which you can do things. Apart from main story missions called Agency Missions you can complete side missions called Stronghold Takeover Missions and Faction Missions in any order and in between completing them you can free roam for however long you like collecting resource and faction items, destroying objects, completing challenges, killing enemies and exploring the world to discover new locations.

When you start the New Game, choose your difficulty. Once you've picked it, the difficulty cannot be changed.
I strongly suggest picking Hardcore to make it a one playthrough because Just Cause 2 is a massive open world game and should you decide to first play on Normal difficulty you will have to complete all of the Agency Missions on Hardcore again and to unlock them you will have to accumulate enough Chaos which may add well over 20 - 30 hours to the total time required to get to the Platinum.

If you are after the Platinum, you will need to play on Hardcore regardless, therefore pick it and start playing.
If you really don't feel comfortable on it, then by all means finish the Agency Missions as soon as possible and then start over on a lower difficulty.
However, if you follow some or all of the tips provided in the Legendary Agent trophy description, you should have far less trouble playing on Hardcore, especially that with time as you upgrade your weapons and health the game gets much easier, very enjoyable and you shouldn't regret sticking to Hardcore difficulty at all.

As soon as you finish the second main story Agency Mission Casino Bust, you will be free to plunge into the huge and beautiful world of Panau and sink your teeth literally into anything you like and there will be a lot of things to keep you occupied.
It's entirely up to you if you want to work on specific trophies to get them out of the way fast or just play normally without trying for them and when you have crossed 60% of completion then have a look at what trophies you are still missing to concentrate exclusively on obtaining them.
It's really impossible to say which trophies are going to come easy or fast or which trophies could come to you naturally as it all depends on your skills and tactics style that you will develop during the gameplay and how creative and experimental you're going to be.

One thing is certain though - the Perfectionist trophy in a way will be your main focal point for the duration of the game and to be able to get it, you will be forced to obtain a large bulk of other trophies in the process.

The trophies you may need to concentrate on more because they might not come naturally are: Follow Me! :bronze, Hang 'em High! :bronze, Wrecking Ball :bronze, Piñata Party :bronze, Killing Frenzy :bronze, Invincible Warrior :bronze, Destruction Frenzy :bronze, Trying Everything Once :bronze, Stunt Driver :bronze, Parachute Climber :bronze, I Believe I can Fly :bronze, Bridge Limbo :bronze and Stunt Flyer :bronze. For details please refer to the respective trophy descriptions.

Quick word on Auto and Manual saves
The game autosaves very frequently so there's not much need for manual saving but there are a few things worth keeping in mind to avoid unnecessary circumstantial head scratching later on:

  • Whenever you happen to die outside of any mission the game will autosave and retain all of your progress, then you will respawn in the nearest Stronghold you'd taken over.
  • Whenever you happen to die during a mission even though the game technically autosaves you will lose any progress that you may have made since the most recent checkpoint, which means that if for example you'd driven a new vehicle, discovered a location, got any specific kills and so on it will all be lost! and you will respawn at the most recent mission checkpoint.
  • Making a manual save during a mission DOES NOT circumvent the above so if you die during a mission after saving manually, your progress will be lost either way. The only way to keep the progress during a mission is to get to another checkpoint or complete the mission successfully.
  • Making a manual save during a mission will allow you to return to the most recent checkpoint from before the manual save had been made.
  • Whenever you make a manual save outside a mission, when you load it, the game will place you in a stronghold nearest to the location you had saved at with all the progress you had made thus far intact.
  • Loading a manual save will overwrite your most recent autosave, so if you had any valuable progress made on that autosave it will be lost!!

All of the videos used in this guide have been made on Hardcore difficulty.

Bonus for completing the game on Hardcore difficulty

To play on Hardcore difficulty you need to choose it at the start of the game. Once picked, you won't be able to change it.
There's no point in sugar coating as you will find out for yourself fairly quickly anyway - in the beginning of the game on Hardcore difficulty you will die A LOT. It can be frustrating and discouraging, which may initially spoil the enjoyment of this great game.
So if you find yourself close to smashing the controller there are a few things that you can do to make it a more enjoyable experience in the long run:

  • Focus on civilian locations - go finding resource items, that way you won't trigger enemy Heat too often and the more crates you find the faster you'll be able to upgrade your health, weapons and vehicles. The sooner you upgrade your inventory and health, the sooner life will get easier for you. Also this way you'll get to practice using the item radar and you will develop a feel for patterns of how items are hidden around different types of locations.
  • Go for a drive along the motorways - on nearly all of the supports of bridges that cross above the motorways there are two armor upgrade crates, one on each side. Collect a set of five crates to upgarde your health bar a bit each time, the more you find the better.
  • Snatch or hijack armed military helicopters - from the air you can do a lot of damage within short space of time and if the air support hasn't been called in you can quickly fly away to safety, wait for the Heat to cool down and then come back to cause more damage.
  • There's no shame in playing a coward - if the Heat gets too intense, grapple or glide away pronto, if an enemy helicopter is on your back, either hijack it or if you're near water, dive in and wait for the Heat to cool down.
  • Take cover a lot - wait for a few seconds for your health to regenerate before you stick your head out again.
  • Be sneaky - invest in triggered explosives, quietly rig as many enemy objects as you can, leave the place, pull the trigger and watch the stuff blow up from a safe distance ready to quickly escape should the enemy decide to pursue you.

By doing those things especially early on into the game you're doing a couple of things: you're already working towards picking up resource items, discovering locations and even if you don't complete them straight away, you will have a lot of the job done already when you come back to them later.
On top of that you will get the experience and familiarize yourself with how things work in the game and possibly practice using parachute to move about, as it's a fantastic tool to travel quickly and at times allows you to cover great distances as well.
Basically take your time to explore, experiment and figure how stuff works and as you build up your skills, health bar and upgrade guns then gradually start sinking your teeth into the confrontational meat and go for the missions, military bases, colonels etc.
Eventually with time and a bit of patience the world of Panau will become your oyster.

After you complete the seventh Agency mission A Just Cause wait for Top Agent, Heroic Agent and Legendary Agent trophies to pop before you choose to skip the credits.

012b.pngGaining a foothold :bronze
Complete 3 stronghold takeovers

Please see Conqueror of Panau for details.

012b.pngConqueror of Panau :silver
Complete 9 stronghold takeovers

After completing the second Agency Mission called Casino Bust, Stronghold Takeover missions from three revolutionary factions called Ular Boys (marked in yellow), Roaches (marked in blue) and Reapers (marked in red) will become available. Once they do, your PDA will automatically open up and show you the location(s) marked by a big star icon in a colour corresponding to its faction. You will need to travel to the location and press :triangle to initiate the Stronghold Takeover Mission.

The scenario of a takeover is always the same, you will have to escort and protect the faction's technician while fighting off the enemies.
At the Stronghold gates he will ask you to hack a panel (press :triangle to activate the panel and then follow randomized button sequence, if you fail the hack just try again) so he could enter.
After fighting more waves of enemies and taking care of a formidable machine gun turret the technician will begin hacking of the Stronghold terminal during which you will have to keep protecting him. A large group of enemies will attack you, eventually followed by a chopper.
Once you take down the chopper and the techncian is still alive, the mission will end successfully and you will gain a base in which you will spawn after you happen to die.

Initially you will have three Strongholds (one for each faction) for takeover available. To unlock the remaining six you will need to accumulate Chaos by destroying enemy objects, collecting resource and faction items and completing Agency and Faction Missions.
To see how much Chaos you need to accumulate to unlock a Stronghold Takeover Mission bring up your PDA by pressing :select and look in the bottom right corner at the Chaos meter.

After you complete all 9 Stronghold Takeover Missions the trophy will pop.

To check your progress on amount of completed Stronghold Takeover Missions press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

012b.pngA Trusted Ally :gold
Complete 49 faction missions

After you complete a Stronghold Takeover Mission the faction's area of influence will increase and if you have accumulated enough of Chaos several Faction Missions will become available. They are marked with a distinctive triangle icon in a color corresponding to its faction: yellow for Ular Boys, blue for Roaches and red for Reapers.

To begin the mission travel to the given location and press :triangle at a booth.
You will watch a cutscene in which the faction leader will explain what needs to be done and provide you with a gun, ammo and a vehicle. Next simply follow the objective markers to complete a mission.
Usually they are simple enough tasks like killing a target, escorting a faction member, sabotaging something or hijacking a vehicle and can be completed very quickly unless they pose a challenge to you.
Please keep in mind that unless the mission objective explicitly requires you to do something in a specific way, you can use absolutely any means to complete it, so feel free to be creative.

To check your progress on amount of completed Faction Missions press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.
If you can't see any Faction Missions icons on the map but you still haven't done all 49 it means you need to accumulate more Chaos by destroying enemy objects, collecting resource and faction items and completing Agency Missions.

To see how much Chaos you need to accumulate to unlock another faction mission bring up your PDA by pressing :select and look in the bottom right corner at the Chaos meter.

Once you've completed all 49 Faction Missions you will receive the trophy.

012b.pngFirst Taste of Chaos :bronze
Cause chaos for the first time

This will be your first trophy obtained during the first Agency Mission Welcome To Panau.
Whenever you destroy any of enemy objects you receive Chaos. This trophy will pop as soon as you destroy something for the first time. For more details please see Destroyer trophy description.

012b.pngSaboteur :bronze
Complete 150 sabotages

Please see Destroyer for details.

012b.pngDestroyer :bronze
Complete 1000 sabotages

Destroying various enemy objects counts as a sabotage. To recognize them easily within the environment they are marked in red and most are branded with the white Panauan star, also your cross hair will go red and a little red icon with white 'health bar' will appear when aiming at them.

You can demolish objects by shooting at them with guns like assault rifle, machine gun and shotgun (best if they are upgraded), rocket and grenade launchers, planting C4, throwing grenades, raining with fire from hijacked military helicopters and armored vehicles.

Please keep in mind that larger constructions can only be destroyed by explosives or by activating control panels - the latter applies to communication stations, pipelines and fuel shafts.

The list and amount of what can be destroyed is quite varied and extensive:

  • 90 Baby Panay Statues (indestructible with inventory guns)
  • 320 Broadcast Towers
  • 75 Communication Stations - heavily guarded circular construction that needs to be activated by activating three control panels
  • 40 Cranes (indestructible with inventory guns)
  • 50 Factory Chimneys (indestructible with inventory guns)
  • 1020 Fuel Depots
  • 15 Fuel Shafts - can be destroyed only by activating a control panel at the bottom of the shaft
  • 30 Gas Holders - very hard to destroy with inventory guns
  • 490 Gas Pumps
  • 400 Generators
  • 30 Mobile Radars
  • 11 Offshore Rigs
  • 100 Propaganda Trailers
  • 55 Pipelines - can be destroyed only by activating a control panel
  • 75 Radars
  • 25 Radio Masts (indestructible with inventory guns)
  • 185 SAMs (indestructible with inventory guns)
  • 30 Satellite Dishes
  • 90 Silos
  • 100 Transformers
  • 221 Water Towers
  • 50 Wind Turbines (indestructible with inventory guns)

While going for Perfectionist more than likely you will reach at least 1500 sabotages so this trophy should come naturally with time.

To check your progress on sabotages press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to SABOTAGE.

012b.pngProfessional Hitman :bronze
Assassinate 25 colonels

Colonels are a heavy armored military personnel. There are 50 named Colonels in the game and for this trophy you will need to kill 25.
When you find yourself near one a white icon with three black stars will apear with the Colonel's name underneath it.

For the full list of Colonels and their locations please see this wiki page or peruse this interactive map (to view Colonel markers scroll down the right hand side navigation bar to the bottom and click on page [2]).

The colonels can't be killed with guns by other means than headshots as they wear bulletproof armor. Additionally to make them harder to kill they are protected by a group of 4-5 soldiers wearing blue berets.
Nevertheless there is a number of ways to kill them effectively.

  • The easiest method is to obtain an armed helicopter and rain a Colonel and his entourage with bullets from above.
  • Rocket and grenade launchers or miniguns are the second best option.
  • Throwing a couple of upgraded grenades can do wonders as well.
  • If you like to stay away from the Heat, use the sniper rifle or if you prefer to be up close and personal, rambo in with an upgraded machine gun or assault rifle and aim for the head.

Personally I relished blowing their heads off in one shot with fully upgraded shotgun.

If you happen to die before you killed the Colonel, once you return to his location, he will have all of his health back and full blue beret entourage around him.

To check progress on how many Colonels you have killed press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.
To view which colonels are dead or not, press :select followed by :r2 and pick Colonels, there you will see a list of all regions of Panau, click :cross on any of them to access the list of Colonels stationed within that particular region. The dead Colonels will be marked by a green tick.

012b.pngUp to the Challenge 1 :bronze
Complete 10 challenges

Please see Up to the Challenge 2 for details.

012b.pngUp to the Challenge 2 :bronze
Complete 50 challenges.

After you complete a Stronghold Takeover Mission, the faction's area of influence will increase and your PDA will automatically show you challenge icons appearing on the map.
The challenges are marked by round icons with a racing black and white checkered flag.
When you highlight a particular icon with your cursor, you will see the information of what kind of challenge it is and its difficulty.

There is a total of 75 challenges of four types with three difficulty levels that require passing checkpoints within allotted time (passing each checkpoint increases the time limit):

  • aircraft race - can be completed with any type of aircraft including helicopters
  • boat race - can be completed with any boat
  • car race - can be completed with any land vehicle
  • parachuting/free falling challenge - to complete this type of challenge you need to use a combination of free falling and parachuting to pass through checkpoints.

To begin a challenge travel to its location and press :triangle at the flag post.

The majority of challenges are easy enough but some of 3 star challenges may be problematic.
To make it a breeze for the car challenges, I recommend to use a fully upgarded Makoto MZ 260X and for aircraft challenges use fully upgraded Rowlinson K22 or if you're good at flying use Pell Silverbolt 6. All three vehicles are available for purchase from the Black Market.

If your vehicle gets destroyed during the race, just grab another one or call in for Black Market to be able to continue on.
If you happen to die during a challenge, you will restart in front of the first checkpoint gate but if you run out of time or leave the challenge zone, it will count as a fail and you will be able to either return to the challenge flag post to try again or choose to do something else and continue with free roam normally.

To check your progress on completed challenges press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

After completing 50 challenges the trophy will be yours.

012b.pngLeaving No Rock Unturned :bronze
Collect 1000 resource items

Resource items are shiny silver crates that can be found in all of the named locations in Panau, some are even scattered randomly around countryside.

When you find yourself near enough of a resource item, a little radar will flash up at the top left side of your main radar. The amount of bars indicates how close to a crate you are. When you are very close, the bars will fill up fully and flash up, also a white directional arrow will appear. Additionally if you are facing the resource item, you will see its icon above it.

Looking for resource items is a lot like playing a 'Hot and Cold' game. In some locations with tall buildings/structures don't forget to also think vertically.

There are 4 types of resource items:

  • armor parts (400 available) - they are marked with a white icon of a shield with a cross in the middle (collecting a set of 5 upgrades your health bar)
  • cash stashes (450 available) - they are marked with a dollar icon (they contain money that can be used for purchases in Black Market)
  • vehicle parts (900 available) - they are marked with an icon of a spanner and a wheel (these parts can be spent to upgarde your Black Market vehicles)
  • weapon parts (950 available) - they are marked with an icon of a spanner and a pistol (these parts can be spent on upgrading your guns)

While going for Perfectionist more than likely you will collect over 1500 resource items so this trophy should come naturally with time.

To check your progress on amount of collected resource items press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to ITEMS.

012b.pngFinders Keepers :bronze
Collect 100 resource items.

Please see Leaving No Rock Unturned for details.

012b.pngFaction Benefactor :bronze
Collect 150 faction items

Faction items unlike resource items are always visible on your map and are marked by light blue shiny dots. Those dots will gradually start appearing as you progress in completing Stronghold Takeover and Faction Missions.

There are three types of faction items:

  • Skulls (100 available) - they are predominantly located high up in the mountains in difficult to get to places but some also can be found at sea level remote areas.
  • Drug Drops (100 available) - those small silver suitcases can be found exclusively in urban areas such as cities, towns and on motorway bridges/supports although occasionally you'll come across one in a smaller settlement.
  • Black Boxes (100 available) - they look the same as resource item crates but can only be found under water so you will have to do some diving to obtain them. Majority are located within a short swimming distance from a shore but some can be located quite far out into the sea. The Black Boxes are never too deep and with Rico's generous lung capacity there's no danger of drowning so go for a bit of diving and relish the beauty of underwater world.

While going for Perfectionist more than likely you will collect around 200 faction items so this trophy should come naturally with time.

To check your progress on amount of collected faction items press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to ITEMS.

012b.pngGlobetrotter :bronze
Discover 100 locations

Undiscovered locations are marked on your map with golden shiny dots. To discover a location it's enough to get close to it, which means you could be discovering locations simply by flying, driving or running by one without actually having to enter it.
When a location is discovered you will see an onscreen notification with the location's name and an icon indicating if it's a city, village, airport, seaport, military base etc.

Having many locations discovered is handy for quick traveling via extraction but there's no need to get out of your way to go mass-discovering as challenges, Agency, Stronghold and Faction Missions will often take you to and via new places, plus more than likely while going for Perfectionist, you will discover well over 200 locations out of the 368 available, so this trophy should come naturally with time.

To check your progress on amount of discovered locations press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

012b.pngFreeroamer 1 :bronze
Reach 100% complete in 15 locations

Please see Freeroamer 2 for details.

012b.pngFreeroamer 2 :silver
Reach 100% complete in 100 locations

To complete a location you will need to collect all of the resource items and destroy all of the destructible objects in that location.
Each time you collect a crate or destroy a valid object, the percentage ratio indicator located at the bottom of your radar will go up.
In very small villages it will be as simple as finding as few as 4 crates but in bigger settlements and more so in cities and large military bases the amount of items to find and destroy can be as many as 30 or more.
Please note that sometimes a Colonel is a part of completion, also occasionally some SAMs are not a perquisite of completion and won't bring up the percentage when destroyed.

Completing a location can often be frustrating, as you may end up running around looking for that one or two pesky items/objects with no idea what or where they could be.
However here are a few tips that may help in facilitating this process:

  • Approach the location from above, take your time to survey it while slowly parachuting downwards, get a general idea of its layout and more prominent enemy objects to have an easier time orientating yourself and finding things when you reach the ground.
  • While high above be on the look out for shiny blinking of resource item crates, try to roughly memorize where and how many there are. Note that some crates may be placed under roofs and won't be visible from the air.
  • If you enter a location on a ground level, start at one end and if possible do the clean up in one direction towards the other end, if the location is more spread out get a car or glide around on the parachute to pick up a signal on item radar,
  • It's a rule of a thumb that in case of civilian locations there will be a single building or a ruined shrine etc with a crate and it will be on the outskirts and not visible while you're on the ground, while in military bases it will often be a communication tower or a pipeline hidden in the woods or behind a hill. Again scouting from above helps to find those decentralized 'haystack needles' easier.
  • Keep an eye for transformers and generators! They are easy to overlook and often time they will be the last things you need to destroy to complete a location.
  • If you get stuck leave the location and come back to it later, upon return you are more likely to find the remaining items/objects very quickly.
  • Ironically in large military/industrial bases some objects can be so big you will overlook them from the ground level eg. radio masts, wind turbines, cranes, satellite dishes etc.
  • Lastly if you are desperate to complete a location look it up on this Just Cause 2 locations page to check against the full list of items/objects that can be found in that particular location.

Once you complete a location you will see an onscreen notification of the fact, the game will autosave and from then on that location will bear a green tick on your map.

While going for Perfectionist more than likely you will have to complete well over 150 locations out of 368 available so this trophy should come naturally with time.

To check your progress on amount of completed locations press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

012b.pngBody Count :bronze
Kill 750 enemies

You might think that 750 enemies is a lot but in reality while going for Perfectionist and other kill specific trophies more than likely you will rack up at least 2500 kills so there's no need to get out of your way and this trophy should come relatively soon.

To check your progress on amount of Kills press :select folowed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngUnarmed and Dangerous :bronze
Kill 50 enemies using melee attacks

To melee an enemy approach him and press :circle repeatedly until the 'Melee Kill' message pops up to the right of your radar.

For the trophy you need to melee kill 50 enemies.

video created by annmarou76

To check your progress on amount of Melee Kills press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngGravity is a Bitch! :bronze
Kill 30 enemies by using the grappling hook and making them fall to their death

To perform a Fall Kill you need to find an enemy that is somewhat above the ground level eg. on a rooftop, water tower, lookout tower etc.
Aim at him and press :l1 to fire the grappling hook which will automatically pull the enemy down.
For the fall to count, a 'Fall Kill' message has to pop up to the right of your radar.
Pulling enemies down with the grappling hook is a very effective method of quickly dispatching or interrupting firing at you by distant enemies.
Funnily enough you can get Fall Kills by grappling enemies cooped up in the machine gun turret 'bunkers'. They don't technically fall but the game registers them as such, you can also repeatedly grapple an enemy standing on the ground, until they take enough damage to die from a 'fall'.
There are many more funny and interesting ways of getting Fall Kills so if you want, try experimenting with grappling hook to see what you can come up with.

For the trophy you need 30 Fall Kills but if you utilize grapple hook as your weapon you will end up with way more than that.

To check your progress on amount of Fall Kills press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngFollow Me! :bronze
Kill 5 enemies by dragging them behind a vehicle with the grappling hook

To perform a Drag Kill you need to aim at an enemy, press and hold :l1 to fire the grappling hook at him and then without releasing :l1 aim at any nearby vehicle and release :l1 to tether the enemy and the vehicle together.
DON'T press :l1 again as it will release the link!
Get in the vehicle, start driving and the enemy will be dragged behind it.
It's best to either go at a high speed or thump the enemy sideways against something while he's being dragged to make him die quicker.
Alternatively soften him up a bit with gunfire before tethering. Keep driving till 'Drag Kill' message pops up to the right of your radar.

You will need 5 drag kills for the trophy to ring in.

012b.pngHang 'em High! :bronze
Kill 30 enemies while they're suspended in the air with the grappling hook

To perform a Hang Kill you need to aim at an enemy, press and hold :l1 to fire the grappling hook at him and then without releasing :l1 aim at anything high enough nearby and release :l1 to tether the enemy to it.
While the enemy is hanging fire at him until the 'Hang Kill' message pops up to the right of your radar.

For this trophy you will need 30 hang kills.

To check your progress on amount of Hang Kills press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngWrecking ball :bronze
Kill 5 enemies by smashing them with an object tethered to your vehicle with the grappling hook

To perform a Wrecking Ball kill you need to tether two vehicles together or a big enough object to a vehicle and drag the latter over an enemy until a 'Wrecking Ball' message pops up to the right of your radar.
There is a number of ways in which you can try to do it but remember that laws of physics do apply and a smaller vehicle won't pull anything bigger/heavier than itself.
You can try tethering two vehicles or boats together, a vehicle or an object to a helicopter etc.
For example during a faction mission 'Head of State' given to you by Roaches you will need to transport Baby Panay's statue head with a helicopter, you can try to get a Wrecking Ball then.
If you are struggling with obtaining this trophy then you may want to do it the easy way shown in the video below.

To perform an Piñata Kill you need to aim at an enemy, press and hold :l1 to fire the grappling hook at him and then without releasing :l1 aim at anything high enough nearby and release :l1 to tether the enemy to it.
While the enemy is hanging melee him by pressing :circle until a 'Piñata Kill' message pops up to the right of your radar.

Piñata Kill is very similar to the Hang Kill but unlike the latter the enemy can't be suspended too high or you won't be able to reach him with the whip, also he can't be tethered too low or it won't count.
Oddly enough though, I'd found that tethering enemies to their cars works very well although they have to be close to the vehicle otherwise the rope will be too long and they will promptly stand up and begin untying themselves.

To check your progress on amount of Piñata kills press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngJuggler :bronze
Kill 30 enemies while they're falling through the air

To perform a Juggle Kill you need to aim at the enemy and press :l1 to fire the grappling hook, which will automatically pull him in the air and towards you. Immediately after firing the grapple hook, aim at the enemy and press :r2 to shoot him with a gun while he's midair.
If the enemy lands before you kill him just grapple and shoot him again until 'Juggle Kill' message pops up to the right of your radar.

Do it 30 times and the trophy will be yours.

To check your progress on amount of Juggle Kills press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngRoad Rage :bronze
Kill 30 enemies by mowing them down with vehicles

To perform a Road Kill you need to run an enemy over with any kind of vehicle.
The larger, heavier or faster the vehicle the easier it is to get the road kill.
I've discovered the easiest way to get an instant Road Kill is to run over an enemy with a boat.
To do it that way get anywhere into water and after a few seconds a patrolling boat will spawn, pull out the enemy occupying the turret and then grapple onto the boat.
Press :triangle to begin the hijack sequence and then use that boat to find and run over the first enemy that you'd pulled out.
The 30 Road Kills may come naturally during the gameplay but if you're falling short or you're struggling to get them, this is by far the best method to use as immediately another boat will spawn and you can repeat the process over and over allowing you to work on Please Step Out of the Vehicle (hijack 50 vehicles) trophy at the same time.

012b.pngMarksman :bronze
Kill 50 enemies by headshots

Simple as - you need to shoot at the heads.
Aiming in Just Cause 2 is not as precise affair as in any other shooter game but with the amount of killing you will have to do on your way to Platinum you will easily rack up over 150 headshots without trying or even way more if you take a shine to a fully upgraded shotgun or sniper rifle.

To check your progress on amount of Headshots press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to COMBAT.

012b.pngKilling Frenzy :bronze
Kill 20 enemies in 60 seconds

It's very unlikely you will get this trophy naturally so for this one you will have to try purposefully.

Here's where and when you may be able to get it:

  • During Stronghold Takeover Missions you will have to fight a lot of enemies. After you hack the gate to let the technician in find a turret (they are marked with a white icon and a black minigun 'logo' on it) mount it by pressing :triangle and then press :cross to detach the minigun and carry it around with you.
Mow down any enemies within the sight, chances are there'll be more than 20 around.
Also when you defend the technician while he's hacking the Stronghold terminal, there will be an intense wave of many enemies to kill.
  • During the third Agency Mission called The White Tiger after the 4th checkpoint, you will find yourself in ruins of a temple armed with a minigun. You can either do it the way it's shown in the video below or retry a few times to learn the route that Tom Sheldon wants you to follow. Whichever way, you should be able to get it after 2 - 3 tries, just remember to make a manual save when you're in this part of a mission so you could reload and try again if you fail.

    video created by CyberlineFilms

  • If for any reason you missed the opportunity during the missions you can try getting this trophy by going to Pulau Berapi, coordinates X:14834 Y:17323 BEFORE completing it to 100%.

For details please watch the video below.

    video created by annmarou76

While you are killing, observe the right side of your radar, you will see 'XX kills in the last 60 seconds' popping up. When it gets to 20, the trophy will chime in shortly after.

012b.pngInvincible Warrior :bronze
Kill 50 enemies in a row with inventory weapons without losing health

The description of this trophy is a little misleading. Very often you will get shot but only lightly and those 'minor wounds' will heal up (your health bar will refill) after a couple of seconds, if you avoid taking any further damage. But if you keep taking the damage or get heavily shot, the bar will permanently decrease and to rebuild it, you will need to find a cabinet with medicine marked by a green icon with a health cross.
So, for this trophy, if you get hit a little bit, it's not all lost, because you'll be able to continue with the kill chain, but on the other hand you can never be completely sure if the shot you took had been a minor or a major one.
All you can do is observe the right side of your radar for a 'Perfect combo: XX' message popping after every 5 kills made without taking the damage.
Once it reaches 50, you will be awarded with the trophy.

There are numerous places you can attempt going for this trophy.
The best location would be a spot where you are certain no enemies can surprise you from behind and have one or two big enough obstacles or buildings in front of you that you could use as a cover.
Equip yourself with assault rifle or machine gun and either pick up the ammo from the dead enemies or if it's too dangerous call in the Black Market to resupply yourself with bullets.

In the video below I gave an example of a location you can get this trophy very easily.

If you are having really big trouble with getting this trophy you may want to try the easy way shown in the video below.

012b.pngDestruction Frenzy :bronze
Destroy 30 objects in 60 seconds

For this trophy not only the usual enemy destructible objects count but also various environmental objects such as vehicles, lamp posts, barrels, small gas bottles etc
  • The first opportunity comes during the first Agency Mission Welcome To Panau. There will be a flak gun which you need to use to shoot down an oncoming enemy chopper. Just shoot at everything within the sight with it.
  • The best spot is 4th checkpoint of the third Agency Mission The White Tiger. You will be equipped with a minigun and there'll be loads of pillars that count as destructible objects. Just mow down as many as you can.
  • Outside of missions the best place to try doing this is to find a large military base or a city and rain it with fire from a chopper, just be aware that enemies may call for an air support.
While you are doing the damage observe the right side of your radar, you will see 'XX objects destroyed in last 60 seconds' popping up. When it gets to 30, the trophy will follow shortly after.

012b.pngTest Driver :bronze
Drive 30 different vehicles

Please see Trying Everything Once for details.

012b.pngTrying Everything Once :bronze
Drive all 104 vehicles

There are 104 unique vehicles in the game and for this trophy you need to have driven them all. Some are very common, some are less common and several are very rare and can be found only in specific locations or situations.
To 'drive' a vehicle, it's enough to approach it, press :triangle to get in and if it's a vehicle you haven't driven yet, a 'XX unique cars driven' message will pop up at the right side of your radar.
To make the process of hunting for vehicles less of a chore, in the beginning make a point of getting into any kind of vehicle you see around while free roaming and especially during missions - get into any vehicles that belong to both: faction members and enemies as they may be the rare ones you might have a harder time finding later.
As your explorations or missions take you to different regions of Panau upon arrival again, be thorough with getting into any vehicles that look like something you haven't driven yet, as some of them are 'native' only to certain areas.

To check which vehicles you have driven press :select followed by :r2, pick Vehicles and scroll down the list. The vehicles without a green tick are the ones you haven't driven yet.

For the full list of vehicles and their locations please refer to wiki Just Cause 2 Vehicle List

***IMPORTANT*** Bering I-86DP is the only missable (sort of) vehicle in the game!! It's a military aircraft that spawns taking off a runway only in two locations:
  • Kem Jalan Merpati airport, coordinates X:9434 Y:28190
  • Kem Udara Wau Pantas airport, coordinates X:22160 Y:23265
If you happen to complete both of those locations before driving the Bering it will never spawn on the runway again unless you're extremely lucky with finding it flying and hijacking it midair.

If you missed driving Bering, you can try catching it using the method shown in the video below.

012b.pngRoad Trip :bronze
Travel 75 kilometers by land vehicle

There's no real need to grind for this trophy as the car challenges and Faction Missions will provide you with plenty of driving experience. Also going for Stunt Driver trophy will force you to acquire substantial mileage.

To check your progress on amount of kilometers driven press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

012b.pngPlease Step Out of the Vehicle :bronze
Hijack 50 enemy vehicles

To hijack a vehicle you need to grapple yourself onto it by aiming at it and pressing :l1. To hijack a vehicle though you need to get rid of any passengers before the hijacking sequence can be initiated.
  • In case of the cars shoot the enemy passenger(s) first and when they're dead, press :triangle to start QTE to get rid of the driver.
Please remember that while trying to hijack a car you can't be standing on the ground as enemies will immediately pull over and jump out so you need to jump from a vehicle onto an enemy one either by pressing :circle when the prompt becomes available or by grappling.
  • When you grapple yourself to an enemy helicopter at first you will be hanging down from its undercarriage. Push :r3 downwards to climb onto its nose, only then will you be able to aim and shoot at the passenger, once he's dead you can begin the hijack sequence by pressing :triangle and following the QTE prompts to get rid of the pilot.
Please note that sometimes with helicopters the passenger may not be leaning outside and if that's the case, you won't be able to pull yourself up onto helicopter's nose. Also occasionally there won't be a passenger(s) in at all and you'll be able to begin hijacking straight away.
  • With boats you need to aim and grapple at the boat to pull out its passenger and then grapple again to be able to press :triangle and begin the QTE sequence.
The QTE will always consist of combination of three buttons to press but they will be in different order each time you hijack a vehicle, although if you make a mistake during the sequence, the button prompt will be the same as the one you missed but the driver will punch you taking a bit of your health away as a penalty for making a mistake.

There's no real need to grind for this trophy as more than likely you will find yourself in more than 50 hijacking situations especially if you appreciate how handy it is to overtake an enemy helicopter and turn it against those who sent it at you.
Nevertheless if you find yourself falling short with hijackings use the method given in Road Rage trophy description.

video created by annmarou76

To check your progress on amount of hijackings press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and look in GAME section.

012b.pngStunt Driver :bronze
Get 100 stunt driver points

Stunt driver points can be earned only when driving land vehicles.
To get the points you need to drive fast and/or perform long jumps. Throughout the landscape of the whole Panau you will see many 'man-made' and natural ramps that can be utilized for stunt jumps.
Very often during car challenges or in-mission car pursuits while going at high speeds you will suddenly find yourself watching a short animation of your car soaring through the air - that's a stunt jump that will be awarded with stunt points.
It may not be enough though to earn all 100 points required, so depending how you wish to go about getting them, you can either find a ramp and keep jumping off it or go to any motorway, call in for a fast Black Market vehicle (Makoto MZ 260X being the fastest when fully upgraded), hit the road, step on it and watch the stunt points clock in every 5 seconds at the right side of your radar.

To check your progress on amount of stunt points press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to STUNTS.

012b.pngHalfway there :bronze
Reach 50% completion in the normal mode or mercenary mode

Please see Perfectionist for details.

012b.pngParachute Climber :bronze
Open the parachute and then land on foot 300 meters above the starting height

To begin parachute climbing, first you need to propel yourself into the air by grappling at any surface in front of you by pressing :l1.
Press :cross to open the parachute and then keep grappling at the surface in front of you to maintain your momentum and gain the altitude.
For this trophy you need to land 300m higher than the point you'd started from.
It doesn't matter how you reach the required difference as long as you don't touch the ground too early. The trouble is you won't know how high you've climbed until you've landed on your feet, so first you may need to develop a bit of an eye to judge the heights.
After you've touched the ground, a 'Parachute Climbing: XXX meters' message will pop up at the right side of your radar. If it's 300 meters or more you will get the trophy. Please note that you will get the notification only if it's your currently highest parachute climb.

To check what your highest parachute climb is press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to STUNTS.

There are countless places that this can be done at but it will greatly depend on your skill. If you're proficient with the parachute, you may try climbing very steep surfaces, the pinnacle of skill would be climbing the skyscrapers in Panau City but if you're not as savvy with gliding then find a gently increasing slope to get going, it will take you a bit longer, but will be definitely easier to achieve.

In the video below I gave an example of such a location. If you're interested in doing it there, go to the frozen lake east of Kastelo Singa Base, coordinates X:21112 Y:9529 and look north to locate that slope.

video created by annmarou76

012b.pngI Believe I Can Fly :bronze
Base jump 1000 meters

The best and most common location to obtain this trophy is Mile High Club, coordinates X:29584 Y:11435
At first you can get to it only from the air using a helicopter or an aircraft either by flying there yourself or during a Faction Mission given to you by Roaches called The Mile High Club.

To be high enough for a 1000m base jump you need to be standing on top of the blimp, run towards its edge and then jump off by pressing :cross.
It's important not to just fall off as it won't count as a jump.
Free fall while observing the notification of a total popping at every 50m increase.
Once it says 1000m you can open the parachute and the trophy will follow soon after.
For your information - at 1150m you will hit the water with a fatal result but it won't void obtaining the trophy at all, so if you want to go for an extreme base jumping, feel free to do so.

video created by annmarou76

There is another location where you can also beat base jump records if you wish, coordinates X:7364 Y:16172
You will find a hot air balloon there. Shoot off the weighing bags, hop into the basket, press :triangle to activate the burner and keep pressing it to allow the balloon to slowly ascend.
The only inconvenience is, it takes a really long time for the balloon to climb and you won't know how high you've allowed it to ascend until you've attempted the jump.
You can jump off from its basket or grapple hook to the top of the balloon itself and jump off from there.

To check what your highest Base Jump is press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to STUNTS.

012b.pngBridge Limbo :bronze
Fly an airplane under 30 unique bridges in Panau

To perform a Bridge Limbo you need to get any airplane (helicopters don't count) and fly under a bridge you haven't flown under before.
Any kind of a bridge is fine: above water or road, high or low, short or long.
If you performed a valid Bridge Limbo a message will pop up at the right side of your radar. If it doesn't, it means you must've flown under this bridge already and you need to find a different one. There are plenty of bridges around Panau and finding a new one should be easy.

video created by annmarou76

If you are having a hard time squeezing under the bridges, you may want to DRIVE with your aircraft under them as the game registers a Bridge Limbo this way as well.

video created by annmarou76

To check your progress on amount of Bridge Limbos press :select followed by :r2:, pick Statistics and scroll down to STUNTS.

012b.pngStunt Flyer :bronze
Fly an airplane close to the ground for 30 seconds

Depending on your skill with flying aircrafts this may be a tricky trophy to get.
For the Low Flyer count to begin and continue you need to fly at no more than 30m above solid ground.
You can fly above shallow water as long as the sea/river bed is not more than 30m below your undercarriage, therefore you can try for this trophy at any not too winding stretch of a beach or to make it even easier go to the desert west of Gunung Hutan Merah military base, coordinates X:7880 Y:18555 where a nice, long and relatively flat stretch of sand begins.
If you wish to obtain the slowest plane in the game - Peek Airhawk 225, travel to any aircraft challenge on the desert island or in Panau City, initiate it, get the plane and ignore the warning of leaving the challenge zone. Fly over to the location and carefully descent low enough over the ground.
If you see your aircraft raising dust from the ground, it means you're definitely low enough and on the right side of your radar you should see 'Low Flyer XX seconds' come up at 5 second intervals.
Continue flying till the counter reaches 30 seconds.
If the count stops, it means you either ascended too high or slowed down below minimum cruising speed and entered 'landing' speed which also breaks up the continuity of the count.

video created by annmarou76

To check what your longest Low Flyer record is press :select followed by :r2, pick Statistics and scroll down to STUNTS.

012b.pngPerfectionist :bronze
Reach 75% completion in the normal mode or mercenary mode

More than likely this will be your last trophy on the way to your Platinum as it requires you to reach 75% of completion of the whole game and this is a time consuming process.
You can achieve that when you're either still in story mode or in mercenary mode. The only difference is while in story mode, you will not see your completion percentage unless you view your most recent save file in the XMB menu whereas in the mercenary mode you will be notified of your progress down to hundredth fraction of a percent each time you do something that increases the completion.

To be most efficient it's important to know which actions give you what amount of percentage:
  • Killing Colonels adds 0.15%
  • Completing a location adds 0.03%
  • Finding a faction item adds 0.03%
  • Completing a challenge adds 0.01%
  • Finding a resource item adds 0.01%
  • Destroying an object adds possibly around 0.005%
***The percentages above are very close approximates as the precise values go into thousandth fractions.

Armed with this info now you know what's most worth going after to build up the completion percentage more effectively.

However, how you reach 75% completion is totally up to you depending on what you enjoy doing in the game most or what you prefer to focus on like mainly collecting resource and faction items, completing locations, doing challenges, killing colonels, engaging yourself in mass destruction or doing a bit of everything.

Whichever way you decide to go about it, try to forget about the completion rate and enjoy the fun and freedom that this game has to offer.

If you're interested to get a rough idea what it takes to get to 75% and how much of everything else, you may expect to rack up via normal gameplay see my stats

Spoiler

012b.pngTop of the World :bronze
Stand on foot at the highest point of Panau

For this trophy you need to stand on the highest spot in Panau which happens to be a top of the mountain located at coordinates X:20538 Y:11836. To get there obtain any aircraft and fly to that location.
If you landed there with a helicopter, for the trophy to register you need to get out and be on foot.
As soon as Rico is in the correct place he will shout 'Look Ma! I said look! Top of the world! Again...' and that's when the trophy rings in as well.

I've wanted to plat this game but the racing kills it for me.  I am really bad at racing.  It's the same reason why I'll probably not get the Sleeping Dogs plat as well.

in sleeping dogs buy all the best cars/bikes in the class and you shouldn't have much trouble. i tried to win the races early but i struggled, after doing the above it was a laugh, just get an early lead, learn the track and you're golden :)
