Evil convinced me to try the Artillery.  Holy fuck balls this thing is awesome.  When you have 30 fuel points I would really recommend Anti-Tank Ammo and Artillery.

You can fire the Artillery anywhere on the map and generally it fucks up tanks badly.

I don't think so.
However, If you didn't get a heroic win, you can replay it until you do. LOL.

No.  But, as Juzam said, you can just replay a mission over and over until you get Heroic.  Don't bother with the stealth missions though, I have no idea how to Heroic them.  But, I've done Heroic's on all levels except stealth and 1 other, so they are very doable (16 Heroics in my last playthrough I believe).

The key to Heroics is just finishing fast and don't die.  You can get shot up a lot, it has no real bearing on the ranking.

I'd either restart or at least jump back several missions.  If you're following RD's outline of the missions, you should have an idea of what it takes to Heroic each mission.  Keep replaying them until you get Heroics on most, I wouldn't move on...  This also impacts your money and Patton upgrade points, so you need all of them to make sure you're prepared for late game.

Keep in mind a couple things:

1.) Your guys (preferably Snipers or Commandos) can shoot way farther than their "range" is defined.  Just line up the black line so you are sure they'll get a hit.  Also, Bazookas can do the same thing, you can shoot tanks all the way across the map if you line it up right.

2.) If you aren't in range or in a good enough spot to shoot someone, be sure to "ready your aim" before changing turns.  This will make it so if any enemy walks into the defined area, your guy will shoot them automatically (provided he has shots left still).

If you are this far in the game I actually would suggest finishing since you can get 10 heroic victories rather fast.  The last two trophies I always have is finishing the campaign and finishing the last one without dying so complete the campaign and get those out of the way and restart a new game.

I list suggestions on what to use on every mission so that should help.  Also, if you have 30 fuel available going with the Artillery and Anti-Tank is the best option.

I've beaten 4 missions and have 4 heroic victories.

Mission 2 is considered stealth I believe.
RDs guide said use 2 snipers, I did.
He finished in 7 turns and got a major victory.
I finished in 6 turns, killing 2 more people than he did and got a heroic.

When I start a new game, do I start from scratch?

Yeah some missions I could not figure out but I did list about 15 Heroic Victories which are more than enough.  Anything close to Heroic I listed as a major victory as a bench mark just in case.

Yes.  But if you finish the campaign you are on and get the no deaths in final campaign you won't need a complete playthrough.  You can get 10 Heroic Victories by the time you reach the 3rd campaign.

Sure does.  I discovered that you can actually "cheat the system" by using the red reticule to find tanks on the map that haven't spawned yet into your field of view.  If you just hover around the area where you think a tank may spawn (typically the dirt roads you see on the map), you'll notice that the red reticule separates from the target on the ground, effectively showing an invisible tank that hasn't spawned yet.  One direct shot from the artillery on that spot and your tank problems are gone before they even started.  :)

Adding that tip to the guide.

I have updated the guide with suggested army troops as well as the order you should get the skills in my opinion.

I believe tactical should be your number 1 focus.  Once you get this maxed out snipers get 2 shots per turn which destroys the game.

Does it need to be at 10 to get the sniper 2nd shot? (I have it at 2 now and attack at 10)

It does but you can max it out by the 3rd or 4th game and then your snipers will be deadly with 2 shots.  I think it breaks the game because you can easily wipe out everything on the screen.

Only issue with the commandos is yeah they have 14 movement but Snipers have 13, not much of a downgrade there.  Factor in Snipers have the longest range, thats why I always went with them.  I think for veterans of the game, throwing in a commando is a nice idea but fr most people they are better off with Snipers.

After playing this so much at this point I'm just messing around to see how things can be done I must say I'm becoming a fan of the commando.

They can take a beating and after upgrades come with four grenades. Also they can shoot four times per turn when fully upgraded. They can also take a beating. For those of us playing four (hopefully more) times give them a shot
