Overview:

  • Estimated trophy difficulty: 2.5/10

  • Offline trophies: 31 (16 :bronze 9 :silver 5 :gold 1 :plat )

  • Online trophies: 0

  • Approximate amount of time to platinum: 20-25 hours

  • Minimum number of playthroughs: 3

  • Number of missable trophies: technically 0 (scene select), but several are game-spanning.

  • Glitched trophies: 0, but currently Let Me Have a Go needs to be done in a single sitting; will likely be patched later

  • Does difficulty affect trophies?: No. It's actually recommended to lower the QTE difficulty (play on Forgiving) to help you through

Introduction:

THIS GUIDE WAS WRITTEN USING THE THEATRICAL CUT OF THE GAME ON PATCH 1.03

There is currently a bug where some of the chapters may not show up in the chapter select menu even if the required characters are alive/conditions are met. If this has happened to you, simply choose the chapter before it for trophy cleanup. There is a chance that the chapter will unlock upon a subsequent playthrough (this happened to me with two chapters).

Below is a list of all 24 chapters:

Cursed
The Briefing
The Raid
Underworld
Pazuzu
The Temple
Breaking Up
After the Fall
Slayer
The Truce
Bloodbath
The Signal
The Assault
The Horror
Enemy of My Enemy
The Well
The Ancient One
Brothers
The City
Strange Aeons
The Vault
Semper Fi
Daylight

Ending

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game, making only Head choices and gathering 49/50 collectibles

Because you will earn so few trophies during a Head-only playthrough, take this time to gather all of the collectibles. There is only one you won't be able to collect during this run; we'll deal with that later.

A few things to keep in mind during this playthrough, to cut down on replay:

- During the chapter Slayer, make sure you pick up the medkit

- During the chapter The Assault, you will be playing as Salim and will have the option of either shooting what's attacking Rachel or shooting what's jumping at him. Choose what's jumping at him.

Step 2: Reload chapter The Briefing and play the game again, on a new save file, with the ultimate goal of unlocking Ghost Signal

During this playthrough, you will want to make choices that will give Eric and Nick a bad relationship. See Ghost Signal for more specific instructions. This is also a playthrough you will want to combine with Into the Sunset.

Step 3: Reload chapter The Briefing and play the game again, on a new save file, with the ultimate goal of unlocking Oorah

During this playthrough, you will want to make choices that will give Eric and Nick a good relationship. What makes this frustrating is that there's very little that will give them relationship increases; instead, the majority of your playthrough will be making choices that don't decrease their relationship. See Oorah for more specific instructions. This is also a playthrough you will want to combine with Let Me Have a Go!.

Step 4: Miscellaneous solo mode trophy cleanup

The major game-spanning trophies have been covered in Steps 1-3, and you likely unlocked some of the others just by making various choices while playing. You should now have three separate save files with different game setups to help you more quickly unlock whatever miscellaneous trophies you still have to earn – just don't overwrite the main three saves!

Step 5: Movie Night

Simple. On the main menu, select Don't Play Alone – Movie Night, and just play through the prologue. Your choices don't matter, and in fact you don't even need to touch the controller until the last 1/3 of the prologue.

Below are the notes I took as a quick way to make sure you're unlocking multiple game-spanning trophies in a single run.

For Ghost Signal and Into the Sunlight:

- As Rachel, always side with Nick.  Be awful to Eric and vice versa
- no air support / no phosphorus.  You MUST have both conversations
- do not save Merwin
- when looking for Joey: "Forboding" (you keep telling yourself that) = Nick snapped at Eric
- The Assault: Get Rachel infected
- When the prologue character is attacking, don't have Eric help Nick
- Jason shoots Rachel when the infection takes hold
- Salim binoculars: make sure you see the hatching creature
- Nick explosives: advance forward to plant the second set, pass all QTEs
- Keep Salim alive for the rest of the game

For Oorah and Let Me Have a Go!:

Remember: the UV kills need to be done in a single sitting.  I can confirm that you can reload chapters if you make a mistake, but don't close out of the game completely, and don't switch save files, or the UV count will reset (as of PS4 patch 1.03)

Nick and Eric:
- Briefing: Rachel says nothing to Nick
- yes air support / yes phosphorus.  You MUST have both conversations.
- When looking for Joey: say nothing (the other option is "Forboding", which you don't want)
None of the above will make the relationship better.  It just won't lower it, which is just as important.

- As Salim, uncover the creature, pass all QTE to learn about sunlight
- The Truce: after killing a creature as Salim and Nick, tell Salim "Reassuring" (the marines won't hurt him), so he surrenders This will eventually lead to Eric killing Joey with the UV wand (UV 1)

- Abandon Claire
- The Ambush: Shoot Rachel's creature instead of Salim's.
- (Ambush - Sacrificial chamber) As Rachel, choose to save Eric (UV 2)
- IMMEDIATELY AFTER saving Eric, fail the QTE so Rachel is killed by spear
- Make sure Jason and Salim have a good relationship once they join back up after the Ambush
- The Ancient One: Pass all QTEs/heartbeats.  When talking to Nick after, choose Solemn ("did you love her?")
- The Vault: if you've done the above things, Eric and Nick's relationship should be above the halfway marker, so Eric should give Nick the UV wand.
- As Salim: do not notice the hatching creature
- As Nick: choose LEFT, then fail the QTE, then choose Retreat
- once you're retreating, pass the first QTE, but fail the second one (UV 3) - trophy pops when Jason hits the detonator
- Semper Fi: As Jason, go after Salim.  Fail all QTEs as them
Oorah will unlock after the elevator

NOTE: Eric will automatically kill Rachel while climbing out, if you haven't unlocked Until Death Do Us Part
NOTE: This is also an easy save for Final Girl

(P) Full House!

Collect all Trophies

Trapped beneath the earth, swallowed by the void. Will you find the path to salvation? Or be lost in the darkness forever?

(G) Golden Path

Five characters survived the finale

This is the standard “everyone lives” trophy. This is not likely (perhaps even impossible) to achieve during your Head-only playthrough. The majority of this trophy is passing all QTEs, so if you're having trouble, consider lowering the game's difficulty to Forgiving, or even go into the accessibility menu to change the button tap QTE option to button hold.

An easy death to obtain (and avoid) pretty early in the game: when Eric and Rachel are tied together, cut the rope. This is not necessary if you didn't save Merwin, but absolutely necessary if you did. Additionally, ditch Clarice as soon as possible. If you don't want to deal with Rachel's infection and curing it to ensure she survives, then during The Assault, make sure that Salim shoots the creature attacking her instead of the one jumping at him. Salim will be injured, but he'll survive as long as you continue passing QTEs.

(B) Double Tap

Eric and Rachel both died in the same explosion

In a game where Eric is still alive by midgame:

Bloodbath
Plant the mines on the walls, not in the middle (this may work either way; I chose the walls and got the trophy)

The Assault
When given the prompt as Rachel, choose Retreat instead of shooting the machine gun.
When given the prompt as Nick, choose “Uncertain: Stay close to the walls!”

(B) The Thing

Eric helped Rachel purge her infection

Slayer

Have Salim pass all QTEs when fighting the creature, so he learned about its reaction to sunlight

The Truce

Have Salim and Nick work together to kill the creature

When Eric and Jason show up, tell Salim that the group won't hurt him (Reassuring). Salim will surrender. This will eventually lead to Eric learning how the UV wand works on creatures.

The Assault
As Salim, you will have the choice between shooting a creature attacking Rachel and shooting a creature jumping at you. Shoot the creature jumping at you.

The City
Make sure Salim and Jason interact with the goo-covered corpse

Strange Aeons
If you brought the phosphorous, do not knife it. When prompted as Rachel, choose Desperate x3.

NOTE: Chase after the creature after you purge it from Rachel's body – it is one of the secrets needed for the collectibles trophy.

(S) Let Me Have a Go!

Three characters used the UV wand to attack the creatures

This one is currently buggy with its unlock conditions. It unlocks, but currently (as of PS4 patch 1.03) all three instances need to be in the same sitting. I can confirm that you can quit the game and reload earlier chapters on the same save file if you mess up a QTE, but you can't close out of the game completely, and you can't switch save files, or the counter will reset.

Combine this trophy with Oorah, as the third UV kill requires Nick and Eric to have a good relationship.

Slayer

Have Salim pass all QTEs when fighting the creature, so he learned about its reaction to sunlight

The Truce

Have Salim and Nick work together to kill the creature

When Eric and Jason show up, tell Salim that the group won't hurt him (Reassuring). Salim will surrender. This will eventually lead to Eric using the UV wand against Joey (if Jason has the stake, fail that QTE and you can still get the UV wand kill) (UV 1)

The Asault
As Salim, you will have the choice between shooting a creature attacking Rachel and shooting a creature jumping at you. Shoot Rachel's creature.

Soon after, in the sacrificial chamber, have Rachel save Eric (UV 2).

The Vault

Assuming Eric and Nick have a good relationship (see Oorah), Eric will give Nick the UV wand.

As Salim: do not notice the hatching creature. Just don't move during the binoculars bit and wait for the time to run out

As Nick: go LEFT, then fail the QTE (just saves time), then choose Retreat

As Nick: when retreating, pass the first QTE, then fail the second QTE. (UV 3)

The trophy unlocks a bit later, when Jason hits the detonator.

(B) So You're My Technician

Merwin fixed the radio

This can be done on your Start Thinking Like a Marine playthrough, as the only actual choice you need to make is a head choice. Do not do this on the playthrough where you're going for Into the Sunset , as once Merwin fixes the radio, you will automatically call for air support (and having air support means you can't get that trophy).

The Raid
After cutting Merwin down from the wires, you'll have a total of three QTEs where you will try to keep him calm and quiet. Pass the first two, but make sure to fail the third one.

Later on, Merwin will demand you leave him behind. Choose "Commanding". This will allow him to be present to fix the radio in the The Signal chapter.

(S) Slayer

Salim killed five creatures using his spear

This may actually be story-related provided that Salim survives the whole game; I'm not entirely sure. Just in case:

Slayer
Move the rocks to unearth the creature, then fight and kill it (pass all QTEs).
Team up with Nick and pass all QTEs.

The Assault
Pass all QTEs

The Vault
Choose to abandon Salim instead of helping him. It does not matter if you then choose to wait at the elevator or take it immediately. Salim can kill two creatures while fighting his way to the elevator.

Salim does kill one creature with his spear via cutscene during Daylight, but after that he uses a knife and flare, so I'm not sure if that cutscene one counts towards this trophy.

(B) Illuminating Evidence

Eric discovered the unexpected effects of the UV wand

This will unlock while working towards Let Me Have a Go! and/or The Thing.

(S) The Statement of Randolph Hodgson

Found every part of Randolph's journal

This will unlock while working your way towards Scratching at the Past , as all of the journal entries count as secrets. There are ten entries in total.

(B) Full Clearance

Clarice killed Eric after being infected

In a game where Eric is alive mid-game:

Bloodbath

As Rachel, take Clarice with you. Do not abandon her.

The game will give you several chances to have Clarice shot and killed. Don't let it happen.

The Assault

Keep Eric alive.

At the end of the chapter, Clarice will turn and kill Eric, and there's nothing you can do to stop it, but you will get this trophy.

(B) Until Death Do Us Part

Rachel became infected and killed Eric, or Eric killed her

This actually seems to be a trophy for just killing (or being killed by) a fully-infected Rachel. In my game, Jason was the one who killed her (not by shooting).

The Assault
As Salim, you will have the choice between shooting a creature attacking Rachel and a creature jumping towards you. Choose the creature jumping towards you.

Strange Aeons
As Rachel, do not knife the phosphorus (if you brought it). Choose Desperate x2, then Resistant. Pass the QTEs as Rachel until she runs away.

At this point, you are on track for this trophy as long as someone else survives - one of them will cut her loose from a rope while trying to escape.

The only way I've found to have Rachel kill Eric is if she gets killed by the spear during The Asault, then Eric tries to help Nick, thereby getting pulled into the hole with Rachel. I don't know if that counts towards this trophy, because I already had it unlocked.

(B) Into the Sunset

Salim returned home to his son

Combine this trophy with Ghost Signal, as that trophy requires you to make the same game-spanning decisions as this trophy.

The Briefing
As Eric, do not order air support.

Do not save Merwin (i.e. do all the QTEs to keep him calm, so you end up suffocating him). If you do save him, he will patch up the radio and you will automatically call in air support, locking you out of this trophy.

After that, just keep Salim alive until the end of the game.

(G) Six Minutes of Night

Everyone died in the finale

First, you need to get everyone out of the ruins. See Golden Path.  This is NOT an "everyone dies" trophy. This is specifically for everyone dying in the house at the end of the game.

Once you're back on the surface, just put the controller down and fail all the QTEs in the house.

(B) The Sword and the Shield

Kurum and Balathu chose to fight together

You may unlock this without trying during your Start Thinking Like a Marine playthrough, as the choices required are head-only.

Cursed
While traveling together, choose to be respectful (not arrogant). then when given the choice later, choose to fight together (do not betray).

You will want to do this anyway, so that Balathu is the ancient one you encounter for the rest of the game, due to Old Dog.

(G) Ain't Got Time to Bleed

Escaped the vault without any lingering injuries

Note that this doesn't mean "no dead characters". I unlocked this trophy with only three characters alive, just ensuring that none of them were injured (bearing: Blood)

Slayer
Eric, Nick, and Jason will be in a room with two broken pillars and a large bloodstain. There's also two collectibles in this room. The game wants you to go through an opening with a sunbeam at the end of it, but if you go into the dark opening just left of that, you'll find a medkit (this opens the bearing Blood). This medkit is a requirement for this trophy if you want Nick alive at the end of the game while still earning this trophy, as Nick will unavoidably be injured during the game.

The Assault
When playing as Salim during the firefight in the sacrificial chamber against the creatures, you will have a choice of either shooting the creature jumping towards you, or shooting the creature attacking Rachel. Shoot the creature jumping towards you. If you chose to save Rachel instead (so she doesn't get infected), Salim will be injured. You can still get this trophy, but it does mean you will need to kill Nick in the Vault before he leaves it by failing all his QTEs.

The City
When walking through, interact with the goo-covered corpse on the left (so Salim will stab it)

Strange Aeons

If Rachel is infected (and if you followed my advice above, she will be), have Jason shoot her if she doesn't commit suicide via phosphorous canister (this may be a requirement if you're doing this during your Head-only playthrough, like I did).

The Vault
Choose to retreat when given the option (this will be a requirement in your Head-only playthrough). If Nick patched up someone else's injury instead of his own (he will always patch his up last), then have him die while planting the charges and you can still get this trophy.

The trophy will unlock during the cutscene that closes out the chapter.

(B) Chekhov's Gun

Rachel used the machine gun

The Assault
When playing as Rachel, choose to fire the mounted machine gun when you're prompted to, and successfully shoot all of the creatures with it.

(B) Heart to Heart

Nick killed the anicent warrior with a stake

Bloodbath
Make sure you interact with the corpse that has the crossbow bolt sticking out of it (in the circular room with the big well in the center). When prompted, choose "Dismissive". This will result in Nick taking the stake instead of Jason.

The Vault
Plant the charges. If given the prompt, choose Right (only prompted if Salim doesn't notice the hatching creature), then Advance to plant the final large charge. Pass all of the ensuing QTEs.

(B) Climbing out of Hell

Rachel survived after rejecting both her lovers

This may unlock naturally during your Head-only playthrough, or will at least be close enough that a quick chapter select will get you there.

You need to get Rachel's relationships with Nick and Eric down. Just choosing all Head options should do that for Nick. For Eric you will actually need to choose certain options, but the game makes it obvious which choices are worse for their relationship.

Additionally, Rachel, Nick, and Eric all need to be alive for the end of The Ancient One chapter, which is where the conversation where she breaks up with them takes place.

Once she's broken up with both of them, she just needs to survive to the end of the game.

(S) Final Girl

Only one character survived the finale

This is easier than it may seem. Much like Until Dawn, every single character can die in the final scene of the game - when fighting the creatures in the house. So fail all characters' QTEs except for one, and you'll be good to go.

There are other ways to go about it, of course. This is just an easy way, especially if you're on the same save as your Golden Path playthrough.

Or, if you'd rather do it on a save where nearly everyone is already dead by the time you escape, do this on your save file where you've unlocked Oorah.

(B) Oorah

Eric and Nick shared a moment in the elevator

For this trophy, Eric and Nick need to have a good relationship. What makes this frustrating is that there's not a lot you can do to actively raise their relationship levels, and there's only a handful of things you can do to keep it from dropping.

Combine this trophy with Let Me Have a Go!, as Nick and Eric need to have a good relationship for that trophy.

The Briefing

As Rachel, say nothing to Nick when pressed about their relationship

As Eric, yes air support and yes phosphorous. You MUST have both conversations.

Slayer

When searching for Joey, say nothing. Otherwise Nick will snap at Eric, which will lower their relationship.

I found it helpful to kill off Rachel during The Assault, to completely avoid the breakup conversation and risk the relationship between Eric and Nick lowering. To do this (assuming you're combining this trophy with Let Me Have a Go): as soon as Rachel does the UV kill, fail the QTE. Rachel will be killed by the ancient one's spear (this may also count as a second kill for Old Dog; someone please let me know).

The Ancient One

Pass all QTEs/heartbeats. When talking to Nick afterwards, choose Solemn (“did you love her?”)

Doing all of the above will result in a single uptick in Eric and Nick's relationship (when Eric saves Nick), but more importantly, it avoided any negative points. Which means that Nick and Eric will have a good enough relationship when they're in the Vault so that you can get the third UV kill for Let Me Have a Go, and they'll be primed for their discussion for this trophy.

Your final steps for this trophy: keep Nick alive while he's planting the explosives. Send Jason after Salim, and fail all of those QTEs so both of them die. Nick and Eric will have a moment in the elevator, and this trophy will unlock.

(S) Semper Fi

Jason went back for Salim and they both made it to the elevator

While playing, just make sure Jason and Salim have a good relationship. This isn't particularly difficult to do; even on my Head-only playthrough they had a good enough relationship for this trophy.

Semper Fi
When given the choice as Nick, choose to go back for Salim. Pass all subsequent QTEs, and this will unlock when they are back on the elevator.

(B) Start Thinking Like a Marine

Chose only Head decisions

In instances where you are presented with two heart decisions, just let the timer run out.

The game is nice enough to give you a statement on the pause screen - "You have only made choices with your head, whenever possible." When you make a single heart choice, that statement disappears, so you can track this throughout your playthrough. Additionally, in the chapter select menu, any chapters where only head decisions were made will have a picture of a brain.

The game will autosave after every decision, so if you do mess up, you'll need to reload the chapter from the main menu and continue from there.

(S) Casualties of War

Found all of the Black Framed Pictures

See Scratching at the Past for a video with all collectibles.

(S) Portents

Found all of the White Framed Pictures

See Scratching at the Past for a video with all collectibles.

(G) Scratching at the Past

Found all of the Secrets

There are fifty secrets in total, and unlike previous games in the series, all of them can be obtained in a single playthrough of the game - and it isn't until near the end of the game where certain conditions need to be met to be able to access collectibles. In fact, you can collect all pictures and 49/50 collectibles in your Start Thinking Like a Marine playthrough, and the one collectible you cannot collect in that playthrough is at the end of the game – that one can be collected after unlocking The Thing.

Below is a video showing all collectibles in the order they can be collected, courtesy of 100% Guides

(B) We Are Not Alone

Finished the prologue in Movie Night

Story-related and cannot be missed.

No matter what choices you make, no matter who lives or dies, this trophy will unlock upon finishing the prologue chapter (Cursed) of the game's co-op campaign ("Don't Play Alone" - "Movie Night").

Despite technically being a co-op trophy, Movie Night is just a mode where the controller is passed around to different people in the same room, so this is a trophy you can do yourself.

(G) There Is Always Hope

Completed the Solo Story

Story-related and cannot be missed.

No matter what choices you make, no matter who lives or dies, this trophy will unlock upon finishing the game's solo campaign ("Play Alone").

(S) Ghost Signal

Eric ignored Nick's radio signal

For this trophy, Eric and Nick need to have a bad relationship. What makes this frustrating is that there's only a handful of things you can do to lower their relationship, and you need to do all of them to get the relationship low enough for this trophy.

Combine this trophy with Into the Sunset, as the decisions you make for this trophy are also setup for that trophy.

(in general)

As Rachel, always side with Nick. Be awful to Eric and have Eric be awful to Rachel.

The Briefing

As Eric, no air support and no phosphorous. You MUST have both conversations.

Slayer

When searching for Joey, choose “Forboding”. Nick will snap at Eric, which will lower their relationship.

The Assault

When the prologue character is attacking, don't have Eric help Nick (you may not be given a choice on this)

It's helpful at this point to kill Rachel off, either during The Assault or by getting her infected and having Jason shoot her during Strange Aeons.

The Vault

As Salim, make sure you see the hatching creature (or if you don't, make sure Nick chooses to go Right when given the option)

As Nick, advance forward to plant the second set of bombs, and pass all QTEs.

(B) Lost in Time

Rachel was not rescued from her cocoon

Eric needs to die prior to reaching the underground city. There's several ways this can be accomplished, and is very likely to have happened early on during your Start Thinking Like a Marine playthrough, during a confrontation with Salim.

The Assault
When playing as Salim during the firefight in the sacrificial chamber against the creatures, you will have a choice of either shooting the creature jumping towards you, or shooting the creature attacking Rachel. Shoot the creature jumping towards you.

The City
While walking through the city, interact with the goo-covered body on the left side of the path (the one Salim will stake)

Strange Aeons
As Rachel, beg Jason not to shoot. Salim will mention trying to put Rachel in a cocoon instead, and since Eric isn't there to disagree, Rachel will go into the cocoon.

After this, you need to kill whomever else is still alive in your game – by failing QTEs in the vault area.

(B) Vision of the Past

Rachel witnessed the origin of the creatures.

The Assault
When playing as Salim during the firefight in the sacrificial chamber against the creatures, you will have a choice of either shooting the creature jumping towards you, or shooting the creature attacking Rachel. Shoot the creature jumping towards you.

Strange Aeons
As long as Rachel has remained alive to this point, the trophy will unlock while playing through this chapter.

(S) Old Dog

Balathu made two kills with his spear

Cursed
- Choose to kill the woman when commanded to. If you're on your Start Thinking Like a Marine playthrough, you will have done this. Just make sure you actually do it after being commanded to.
- Make sure you choose the options that unlock The Sword and the Shield (be respectful; fight)

The Assault
I'm assuming this spear kill counts; I haven't personally tested it. But if Rachel does a UV kill to save Eric, the ancient one will throw a spear at her. If you fail Rachel's QTEs here, she will be impaled by the spear. The reason I'm not sure if this counts is because technically she doesn't die after this happens. Someone please let me know.

The Vault

As Salim, notice the hatching creature (or have Nick choose Right when prompted)

As Nick, retreat when prompted. Pass all QTEs until Balathu throws the spear, then fail that QTE.

The trophy will pop on the elevator if you use this instance, so don't worry that it doesn't immediately pop.
